How to find the best Black Friday hearing aid deals

Know what you need from a hearing aid

If you're having any signs of hearing loss, such as speaking louder than usual or struggling to follow conversations in crowded environments, it might be time for a hearing aid. You'll want to have your hearing tested by a hearing care professional to determine the severity of loss and diagnose the potential cause. But in the meantime, an online hearing test can give you a general sense of your hearing health. It will also help you identify what you might need from a hearing aid, such as background noise reduction in restaurants and other noisy environments, or tinnitus masking for everyday use. This will help you narrow down hearing aid deals to the best options for your needs.

Compare deal features—not just discounts

Don't forget to break down what's included in a hearing aid deal and focus on the overall value, not just the final cost. A big discount on an outdated hearing aid might not benefit you as much as a smaller discount on the current model of one of our best affordable hearing aids. You'll also want to consider not only the features of each hearing aid, such as Bluetooth compatibility, programmability, and battery life, but what's included with the deal, like follow-up fittings, cleanings, and software updates. Check out some of our best hearing aid roundups for comparison charts that compare the specs.

Check for trial periods, returns, and warranties

Before you buy a new hearing aid online, make sure it offers a lengthy trial period and free returns, so you can send it back if it doesn't work for you. The standard trial period is from 30 to 60 days. This should give you a chance to adjust to wearing the hearing aid and determine whether it's benefiting you. Don't forget to compare the length of the warranty coverage and check whether it covers repairs and/or loss.

Use your insurance, FSA/HSA, or other coverage

More and more insurance providers are offering hearing care coverage—call yours to see what coverage your plan might include. If you have an FSA/HSA account, chances are that a hearing aid will be covered as a medical expense. Black Friday is a great chance to use up these funds before the end of the year, in case yours don't roll over.

Frequently asked questions

When do hearing aid sales start and end?

Hearing aids go on sale around major holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, and especially Black Friday. Sometimes the deals can start as early as the week before Thanksgiving and continue through Cyber Monday. Do your research in advance so you're ready to take advantage of Black Friday sales when they go live.

How much do hearing aids cost?

Hearing aid prices range from about $200–$10,000, and even the best over-the-counter hearing aids are often cheaper than prescription options. OTC hearing aids typically range in price between $200–$1,400, while the cost of a traditional pair of prescription hearing aids is $3,690. This price is determined by the features, technology level, and amount of amplification. If you have a mild to moderate hearing loss, you can get away with paying less. But you'll miss out on some of the features of a higher-end model.

Is Black Friday a good time to buy hearing aids?

Black Friday is one of the best times to buy hearing aids online because many brands run sales and offer their best prices of the year. Most of these deals continue through the holiday weekend to Cyber Monday.

Should I buy hearing aids online or in person?

If you have a mild to moderate hearing loss, you can buy hearing aids online or in person. Here's our breakdown of the best over-the-counter hearing aids, including all our research and testing of online options. For those with more significant hearing loss, it's a good idea to visit a hearing care professional, such as an audiologist, who can help diagnose the cause and degree of hearing loss.
