With so many different companies and models to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start your search for the best mattress. Leesa is an established brand that launched in 2015 with the goal of making a mattress that was universally comfortable and affordable. More than a decade later, you can still buy the Leesa Original memory foam mattress on sale for less than $1,000. In this Leesa mattress review, we take a closer look at several of the brand’s popular models and how they fared in our testing.
Leesa has a variety of offerings. The Leesa Original is a bargain for fans of memory foam. The Leesa Natural Hybrid uses latex and other organic materials. The Leesa Sapira Chill is made to soothe hot sleepers. And the Leesa Plus is designed for people of a higher weight.
In our testing, Leesa mattresses provided solid cooling and good overall pressure relief across all sleeping positions. Most models also had average-to-good motion isolation and edge support. Read on to learn more about Leesa and what made its mattresses stand out to our older adult testers.
Leesa

- Excellent pressure relief
- Solid value
- Latex, hybrid, and all-foam options
Why choose Leesa?
Leesa has built a reputation for convenience, comfort, and value. The brand makes all its mattresses in the United States and ships them directly to you to cut unnecessary costs. The mattresses are typically compressed for delivery and easier setup. Leesa includes free shipping, a 120-night trial, and a limited lifetime warranty with each mattress. If you need white-glove delivery, which includes new mattress setup and old mattress removal, the brand offers that for an extra fee of $179. Most Leesa mattresses are medium-firm mattresses.
"For individuals who change positions throughout the night, a mattress should provide a balance of support and pressure relief. A medium to medium-firm surface typically helps maintain alignment across different sleep positions while still allowing for ease of movement. This is especially important for older adults, as restricted movement can contribute to discomfort and disrupted sleep.”
—Danielle Wall, MD, sleep adviser for Sit 'n Sleep
Our testers thought the Leesa mattresses they tried seemed solidly constructed. Leesa uses certified-safe materials to make its products and avoids the use of fiberglass. So if you have chemical sensitivities or are looking for the best hypoallergenic mattress, Leesa has some decent options.
In our testing, Leesa mattresses were generally good at easing pressure, regardless of sleeping position. We also found that they tended to stay cool and had average-to-good motion isolation and edge support. Overall, we feel that Leesa mattresses offer a lot of value for their cost.

Understanding our scoring
Our mattress recommendations are based on our thorough research and testing. We created two scores to reflect the needs of our audience:
- Accessibility score: A combined score reflecting factors that make it easier to move around and get in and out of bed.
- Pain relief score: A combined score reflecting factors that help relieve pain while in bed.
Leesa Original: Cooling Comfort Foam
Our testers liked how the Leesa Original memory foam mattress offers a nice balance of comfort and support without feeling too soft. It gently cushions the body while still keeping your spine in line. For an all-foam mattress, this Leesa bed stays incredibly cool.
Leesa Original

- Three-layer all-foam design
- Plush feel with balanced support
- Cooling performance rated 4/5
- Pain relief score: 4/5
- Material: Memory foam
- Brand firmness rating: 5–7/10
- Ideal sleeping position: Side, back
Pros
- Strong pressure relief for back and side sleepers
- Stays cool for hot sleepers
- Has a firmer-than-average feel for memory foam
Cons
- May be uncomfortable for some stomach sleepers
- Not supportive enough for those with a higher weight
- Motion isolation was only average
Our experience with the Leesa Original
Our testers were impressed by this mattress’s comfort and value. It was included in our roundup of the Best Mattresses Under $1,000 because it has a high-end feel for a lower price than many competitors. “The mattress has a very soft, jersey-like feel with the knit cover,” said Sheila, one of our older adult testers. “It’s really comfortable alone, I almost wouldn’t want sheets on it!”
Our Leesa Original review found that this mattress is supportive in any position. It earned a top score (4.5/5) for pressure relief overall, with the highest marks for back and side sleeping (5/5). “I feel like the pressure is even and the mattress is hugging my body,” said Sheila, a 70-year-old combination sleeper. “My spine is well aligned, and I feel very comfortable overall. I don’t have any pressure points anywhere.” While it worked well for most positions, some testers felt it was less supportive when lying on their stomach.

Testers also noted the mattress felt firmer than expected, closer to a 7.5 than the brand’s stated 5–7 range. “This mattress does a good job of not having the ‘stuck’ feeling like you normally see with memory foam beds,” Sheila said. “I don’t feel like I am sinking too much.”
Some of our testers did note that the foam was slower to respond compared to a hybrid mattress, and that can make it more difficult to change positions or move around. But overall, testers were impressed by the Leesa Original, which also earned high scores (4/5) for edge support and cooling. In most categories in our Leesa review, this mattress delivered a performance as good as or better than higher-priced options.
Who is the Leesa Original right for?
The Leesa Original mattress works best for back and side sleepers who want even pressure relief and a steady, supportive feel. It’s also a good fit for shoppers on a budget who like memory foam without the “stuck in bed” feel. Hot sleepers may like how this foam bed stays cool.

Who should keep looking for their perfect mattress?
- Some stomach sleepers might need a firmer surface to keep their hips from sinking. Leesa’s hybrid mattresses, such as the Sapira Chill or Natural Hybrid, had better scores for stomach sleepers and may be good alternatives.
- People with higher body weight may need stronger overall support. The Leesa Plus is designed for those with a higher weight.
- Couples who are sensitive to motion may find the motion isolation of this mattress isn’t strong enough. Surprisingly, Leesa’s Sapira and latex hybrid mattresses both had better motion isolation scores.
- Sleepers who like a bouncy or very responsive mattress might prefer the Leesa Natural Hybrid mattress.
Leesa Natural Hybrid: Certified-Safe Support
The Leesa Natural Hybrid mattress provides good bounce and support without the use of potentially irritating chemicals. It is made of latex, organic cotton, wool, and third-party-certified foams layered over an innerspring base. The mattress earned high scores in most of our testing categories.
Leesa Natural Hybrid

- Eight-layer design with foam and natural latex
- 1,032 individually wrapped coils made from reclaimed steel
- Organic cotton and New Zealand wool for airflow
- Pain relief score: 4.2/5
- Material: Latex and springs
- Brand firmness rating: 5–7/10
- Ideal sleeping position: Side, back, stomach
Pros
- Strong pressure relief for side and back sleepers
- High bounce makes it easy to move
- Good motion isolation for a latex mattress
Cons
- Edge support is weaker than average
- May feel too soft for some sleepers
- White-glove delivery costs extra
Our experience with the Leesa Natural Hybrid
The Leesa Natural Hybrid mattress impressed us with how well it balanced comfort and support. It earned a 4/5 for overall pressure relief, and was especially supportive for side sleeping (5/5). That’s one reason we gave it the title of Best Latex Mattress for Side Sleepers in our roundup. It felt softer than many latex beds, helping our testers sink in just enough at the shoulders and hips when on their sides.
“My side feels really good and my spine down to my hips feels aligned,” said one of our testers. “I feel like my upper half is a little more elevated. Overall I feel pretty comfortable.” We saw similar results for back sleeping. “I feel amazing on my back,” said one tester. “The mattress is up in my spine and filling my lumbar area in. The pressure relief is excellent.”

In terms of bounce, the Leesa Natural is one of the best hybrid mattress options with a 5/5 score. The responsive support helped our testers move and switch positions. “Going from side to back is easy,” said one tester. “I feel hugged by the mattress but not stuck or sinking too much.”
Even with that bounce, this mattress had better motion control (4/5) than Leesa’s foam mattress. “When my partner sat down on the edge of the bed, I barely felt the motion,” said one tester. The Leesa Natural also stayed fairly cool, with less than a 10-degree rise in temperature after use. “It’s not cool to the touch, but it doesn’t feel like it is heating up as I am lying here,” said a tester.
The main drawback we found in our Leesa reviews was edge support. Testers noticed a lot of sinkage when sitting or lying near the side. “Seated, there was too much sinkage and felt like my body was not supported,” said one tester. Still, for side sleepers who want comfort and pressure relief with fewer synthetic materials, we think this mattress is a great latex option.
Who is the Leesa Natural Hybrid right for?
The Leesa Natural Hybrid is a good fit for side sleepers who want a softer, more cushioned feel with enough bounce to make it easier to move around. It can also work well for back and combination sleepers, hot sleepers, and couples.
| I may love it if I: | |
| Sleep with a partner | Yes |
| Have chronic pain | Yes |
| Feel hot at night | Yes |
| Have mobility concerns | Yes |
| Sleep in the following positions | Side, back, stomach |
Who should keep looking for their perfect mattress?
- Sleepers who need strong edge support may prefer the Leesa Sapira Chill, another hybrid mattress.
- Heavier individuals who may sink in too much may want to check out the Leesa Plus, which is designed for people with a higher weight.
- Those who prefer a slow-moving memory foam feel may prefer the Leesa Original memory foam mattress.
Leesa Sapira Chill: Breathable Bestseller
The Leesa Sapira Chill is a hybrid mattress that combines springs and foam for even support. It earned the highest scores across all categories of any Leesa mattress we tested, one reason we included it in our roundup of Best Hybrid Mattresses.
The Leesa Sapira Chill

- Hybrid design with coils and contouring foam
- Zoned support beneath the hips and lower back
- Cooling fibers and foam to help reduce heat
- Reinforced edges for added stability
- Pain relief score: 4.78/5
- Material: Hybrid
- Brand firmness rating: 5–7/10
- Ideal sleeping position: Side, back, stomach
Pros
- Excellent pressure relief for side sleepers
- Strong edge support for sitting and lying down
- Cooling design helps prevent overheating
Cons
- Taller mattress height may require deep-pocket sheets
- May feel too firm for some sleepers
- In-home setup costs extra
Our experience with the Leesa Sapira Chill
The Leesa Sapira is the mid-range option from the brand, a step up from the Original and a step below the Leesa Legend luxury mattress. The Sapira Chill was designed with cooling in mind, but it performed well across the board in our testing. Its high score (5/5) for side sleeping pressure relief led us to include it in the Best Mattress for Side Sleepers roundup.
Testers said the Sapira Chill felt soft on top but still supportive underneath, especially in key areas like the hips. This is because the mattress has zoned support, or extra cushion and pressure relief beneath the hips and lower back. “I honestly love this mattress,” said Sheila, one of our older adult testers. “It feels good on my side. It is so comfortable and supportive and it’s a treat to lie down on at the end of the day.”

The Leesa Sapira Chill scored 4/5 or higher in every category we tested. Its quilted cover was designed to prevent heat buildup. It succeeded, showing a little over a six-degree increase in temperature after use in our heat gun tests. “I could feel the cooling properties of the cover at work,” said one tester. “When I put my hand under it, it wasn't nearly as warm as I expected.”
Hybrid mattresses tend to be bouncy, which can sometimes be an issue for couples, especially if one is a light sleeper. The motion from one partner turning or getting in or out of bed can disturb the other. But the Sapira Chill had no problems in that area. It earned a 4/5 score and was named a best mattress for couples. “Overall, great motion isolation,” said one tester.
Who is the Leesa Sapira Chill right for?
The Leesa Sapira Chill is a great fit for side sleepers who want strong pressure relief and a soft, cool surface. It also works well for combination sleepers who need support in more than one position. Couples may like how it limits motion and feels stable near the edges.
| I may love it if I: | |
| Sleep with a partner | Yes |
| Have chronic pain | Yes |
| Feel hot at night | Yes |
| Have mobility concerns | Yes |
| Sleep in the following positions | Side, back, stomach |
Who should keep looking for their perfect mattress?
- Shoppers who prefer a thinner, lower-profile bed may want to consider the Leesa Original mattress or Leesa Sapira.
- Sleepers who like a slow, deep memory foam feel may prefer the Leesa Original memory foam mattress.
Leesa Plus: Durable Hybrid
The Leesa Plus was built for comfort and strong support for up to 1,000 pounds. It works well for many sleep styles and body types, which is why it shows up often in Leesa reviews.
The Leesa Plus

- Hybrid design with foam and strong coil support
- Reinforced edges for added stability
- Built to support up to 1,000 pounds
- Pain relief score: 3.63/5
- Material: Hybrid (coils and foam)
- Brand firmness rating: 5–7/10
- Ideal sleeping position: Side, back, stomach
Pros
- Strong, stable edges
- Balanced feel for many sleep positions
- Durable build for sleepers with a higher weight
Cons
- Motion isolation is only average
- May not feel firm enough for some
- Cooling features are limited
Our experience with the Leesa Plus
The Leesa Plus is designed for higher-weight sleepers (250 pounds or more). In general, people with a higher weight may feel more comfortable on a firmer mattress because their spine tends to be better supported, according to some research.1 Likewise, lighter-weight sleepers (130 pounds or less) may prefer a softer mattress.
When our testers tried the Leesa Plus, they described it as balanced with a medium-firm feel. The foam top felt soft and cushioned, while the coil layer added strong support below. One tester said it felt “like it’s hugging me, but it’s more firm.” That mix helped the mattress balance comfort and stability for different sleep positions.
The Leesa Plus had equal pressure relief scores (3.5/5) for side, back, and stomach sleeping. So no matter what position you prefer to sleep in, even if you are a combination sleeper, this mattress will support you. Testers liked it most on their backs. “It feels really good on my back,” said one tester. “My lower back feels really good overall.”

The Leesa Plus earned its highest scores for edge support (3.67/5). “With my weight evenly distributed, it did a good job of giving me support and made me feel stable,” said one tester. That can not only help people with a higher weight, but it also makes a mattress less likely to sag over time.
The mattress's motion isolation was average, so some movement may be felt at night. And it wasn’t the coolest we tried. But its strong mix of comfort, support, and durability makes the Leesa Plus a good choice, especially for sleepers with a higher weight.
Who is the Leesa Plus right for?
The Leesa Plus may be a good fit for sleepers with a higher weight who need extra support without losing comfort. It can also work well for back sleepers and people who change positions at night. Those who like a mix of soft and firm may find this Leesa bed a good match.
| I may love it if I: | |
| Sleep with a partner | No |
| Have chronic pain | Yes |
| Feel hot at night | No |
| Have mobility concerns | Yes |
| Sleep in the following positions | Side, back, stomach |
Who should keep looking for their perfect mattress?
- Sleepers who need strong motion isolation may prefer the Leesa Sapira Chill instead.
- Hot sleepers looking for advanced cooling may also like the Leesa Sapira Chill hybrid mattress.
- Those who prefer a very soft, plush feel may want to consider the Leesa Original.

How to use a Leesa mattress
Leesa mattresses arrive compressed in a box. If you are unboxing your mattress yourself, remove it from the box and place it on your bed frame or foundation. Unroll it and let it expand. Most mattresses take a few hours to fully rise, though they may feel ready sooner. It may take a few weeks for your body to adjust to a new mattress.
For best results, use a solid base or platform bed to support the mattress evenly. Adding a mattress protector can help keep it clean, and rotating the mattress every few months may help it wear more evenly over time. Leesa mattresses are designed to work for many sleep styles, so once it’s set up, there’s not much else you need to do.
Is a Leesa mattress right for you?
Leesa has a strong reputation for quality customer service. It offers a range of mattresses to fit many different preferences. Compared to some competitors, Leesa tends to sit in a mid-range price point. It is more affordable than many luxury brands, but it still offers quality materials and performance. The brand’s 120-night trial with free returns gives you a chance to test a mattress in your own home and decide for yourself whether a Leesa mattress is right for you.
While Leesa may not offer as many firmness options as some brands, its “universal” feel is designed to suit a range of sleepers. Our testing backed that up. Here are some things to consider when deciding how to choose a Leesa mattress for you:
- Do you want a medium-firm feel?
Leesa mattresses typically fall in the medium to medium-firm range, which works well for many sleepers but may not suit those who want very soft or very firm beds. - Do you need strong pressure relief?
Leesa performs well here, especially for side and back sleepers who need cushioning at the shoulders and hips. - Are you shopping on a mid-range budget?
Leesa is often priced below luxury brands but above budget options, offering a balance of cost and quality. - Do you prefer simple choices?
Leesa has a smaller lineup than some brands, which can make it easier to choose but it offers less customization than some brands. - Do you want a risk-free trial?
The 120-night trial with free returns makes it easier to try at home before committing.
