Hers Hair Review 2025: See What Our Testers Had to Say

Hers is an online telehealth option for treating hair loss. Our Hers hair review is based on the experiences of real women who tried the platform.

  • Hers, or For Hers, offers women online consultations and treatments for anxiety, hair loss, weight loss, and more.
  • Hers offers a variety of hair loss products, including shampoo and conditioner, oral gummies, and prescription medications.
  • Products with minoxidil and finasteride, active ingredients in many hair growth products, can be prescribed through a Hers provider.
  • Hers is our top recommended brand for hair loss treatment due to affordability, variety of treatment options, and overall positive user experience.

Our mission at NCOA is to connect people with the tools and resources they need to live a healthy life. We put products under the microscope before we can recommend them to you. To review hair loss products, we researched and tested for over 200 hours before making our first recommendation. To find the best hair loss treatments, we:

  • Consulted with dermatologists, trichologists, psychologists, and primary care physicians
  • Ordered a product and tested it for 2-4 weeks before moving it into the next round for consideration—with testing ongoing for 1 calendar year
  • Interviewed long-time users of these brands
  • Used the products as directed on an ongoing basis—they’re now staples in our testers’ showers and medicine cabinets
  • Read thousands of verified customer reviews

We’re constantly testing new hair loss treatments to give you the most accurate and up-to-date recommendations. Read more about our hair loss treatment methodology.

Hair loss and baldness have long been seen as issues affecting only men, yet 40% of people experiencing hair loss are women.1 Up to one-quarter of women will experience some degree of age-related hair loss by age 50. While hair loss can be distressing for women, effective treatments are available. Hers, our choice for the best hair loss treatment for women, offers both over-the-counter and prescription-strength options.

The Hers telehealth service specializes in women’s wellness, offering treatment for weight management, mental health concerns, skin issues, and hair loss. Hers users can shop for over-the-counter treatments like Hers shampoo or consult with a licensed health care provider who may suggest a prescription medication with FDA-approved active ingredients, like oral or topical Minoxidil.

In this Hers hair review, we share the experiences of real Hers users who evaluated the platform and tried Hers hair loss products. Find out what they had to say.

Why we recommend Hers hair growth solutions

We recommend Hers hair growth solutions because of its personalized care, clinical reliability, and high user satisfaction. Hers says they "meet women where they are," a claim supported by their broad range of treatment options and their telehealth model, which treats women from the comfort and privacy of their homes.

The range of Hers hair loss products is impressive, including shampoo and conditioner sets, topical sprays and serums, and oral supplements and gummies. Several Hers products contain prescription-strength minoxidil, an FDA-approved active ingredient shown to stimulate new hair growth in women.2 Hers users can start with over-the-counter products like Biotin gummies, or work directly with a health care provider to receive an individualized treatment plan. While results vary, many Hers users notice reduced shedding and thicker hair growth after three to six months of consistent use.

Our Hers hair growth review team appreciates the platform’s focus on education, starting with a free hair quiz, which guides users through a series of questions to help them select the products and treatments appropriate for their lifestyle. One tester appreciated the platform's informative demonstrations, which show users how to apply the products. The overall user experience on Hers is positive, with testers describing the platform as "streamlined and easy." Our testers had similarly positive things to say about the user experience on Hims, a related brand we recommend as the best hair loss treatment for men.

Hers hair loss products explained

In their Hers hair loss treatment reviews, our testers liked the diversity of the Hers product line. People who aren’t ready for prescription-strength treatments can start with shampoo and conditioner, gummies, and other over-the-counter options. Users seeking more intensive treatment for moderate to advanced hair loss can meet with a health care provider to learn about products with prescription-strength active ingredients, like oral minoxidil. Hers providers help patients develop a treatment plan based on their specific symptoms and concerns.

Hers Biotin + Minoxidil Gummy and Chew

The Hers Biotin + Minoxidil Gummy and the Hers Biotin + Minoxidil Chew are similar products, presented in slightly different formats. The soft gummy is green apple-flavored, and the chew is a firmer, tablet-like option that's lemon-flavored. The pleasant taste of the gummies and chews may provide an added incentive for daily use.

Hers Biotin + Minoxidil Chew
Hers Biotin + Minoxidil Chews and Gummies give users an alternative to traditional oral medications.

Both the gummy and the chew combine two key ingredients: the active ingredient minoxidil, and biotin, a form of vitamin B found in eggs, nuts and seeds, and salmon and other fish. Studies have shown that biotin is effective for healthy hair and nail growth in people with a biotin deficiency or poor hair or nail growth.3

Both the Biotin + Minoxidil gummy and chew are taken orally once daily, unlike topical minoxidil, which is applied directly to the scalp.

Hers Hair Vitamins with Minoxidil

The Hers Hair Vitamin with Minoxidil delivers a low dose of minoxidil along with 2.5 mg of biotin and a dermatologist-formulated blend of vitamin C, zinc, vitamin B6, and pantothenic acid (vitamin B). This once-daily oral vitamin must be taken consistently, as it takes three to six months to start seeing results.

Hers Hair Vitamin with Minoxidil
Hers Hair Vitamin with Minoxidil combines a vitamin blend believed to promote hair growth with a low dose of minoxidil.

People who have trouble remembering to take daily medications may want to consider the Hers Biotin + Minoxidil Gummy or Chew, as its pleasant taste may incentivize daily use.

Hers Oral Minoxidil

Prescription-based Hers Oral Minoxidil helps kick-start hair regrowth by increasing blood flow to hair follicles, which can move them into the hair-growth phase. This is the same active ingredient used in some topical hair growth treatments (applied as a serum or foam), but in a daily pill.

A bottle of Hers oral minoxidil
Hers oral minoxidil contains the same active ingredient often found in topical serums and foams.

While oral minoxidil may come with some side effects, such as unwanted facial hair or dizziness, some women may still prefer it to the potential mess of using a foam or a serum. The starting dose for Hers Oral Minoxidil is 1.25 mg, with the option to increase to 2.5 mg. Your Hers hair loss provider will help you determine the right dose.

Hers Hair Blends Serum and Hers Hair Blends Postmenopause Serum

The Hers Hair Blends Serums can be used daily to improve overall scalp health and stimulate hair follicles. Active ingredients include minoxidil and a blend of biotin, vitamin B5, and ketoconazole, an antifungal that inhibits the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone contributing to hair loss. After washing, use the included dropper to apply the serum directly to thinning areas.

The Hers Hair Blends Serum is ideal for people seeking intensive treatment, as it contains a high concentration of minoxidil (7%). Some side effects of the serum may include scalp itching or a burning sensation at the application site.

A bottle of Hers Hair Blends Postmeno Serum
Hers makes two types of their Hair Blends Serum: a general version, and one specially formulated for those who are postmenopausal.

Similar to the Hers Hair Blends Serum, the Hers Hair Blends Postmeno Serum is formulated for postmenopausal women looking to activate hair regrowth. Active ingredients include minoxidil and finasteride, an ingredient to help block DHT. The Postmeno Serum also includes a blend of rejuvenating essential oils like rosemary, juniper, and lavender.

Hers 2% Minoxidil Solution and Hers 5% Minoxidil Solution

The Hers 2% Minoxidil Solution is a dropper-applied topical serum containing 2% minoxidil. This product is safe for color-treated hair and should be applied twice daily for optimal results. Like other minoxidil products, the 2% solution helps to increase blood flow to hair follicles and move follicles from the resting phase to the growth phase.

Hers 5% Minoxidil Solution Foam
Our testers preferred Hers Minoxidil Foam solution as they found it easier to apply.

With more than double the active ingredient, Hers 5% Minoxidil Solution is a more intensive treatment. Rather than a serum with a dropper, this product is applied as a foam, almost like hair styling mousse. Here’s what our tester had to say about why they chose the 5% foam over other Hers hair growth products:

“First, according to my research, [minoxidil] is an FDA-approved hair loss product with proven, positive results. Secondly, it is a topically applied product. I wanted a product that I did not need to take orally because I didn’t want to take a chance with unwanted systemic side effects or interaction with any other meds…Lastly, it is color safe, which is important to me.”

Hers Shampoo and Conditioner: Thickening or Full Volume

Hers shampoo and conditioner sets do not contain active ingredients like minoxidil or finasteride, so they could be a good choice for women seeking purely cosmetic enhancements to their hair, like greater volume, bounce, and shine.

The key ingredients in Hers Triple Threat Shampoo and Conditioner aim to strengthen, moisturize, and control excess shedding. Biotin contributes to stronger hair, saw palmetto deeply cleanses, and pumpkin seed oil conditions and softens. The Napa rose scent gets positive reviews from users.

Hers Triple Threat Shampoo and Conditioner
Hers sells two types of shampoo and conditioner, one for thickening and one for volumizing.

Hers Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner comes in a coastal cedar citron scent. While Triple Threat, the signature Hers shampoo and conditioner, aims to strengthen and soften, the Hers Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner focuses more on shine and body. Key ingredients include biotin, brown rice, and Biovolume 128, a hair volumizer derived from Linden tree buds. Hers claims this ingredient can increase volume by four times in just five washes, but we were not able to find independent studies to support this claim.

Hers Biotin Gummies

Hers Biotin Gummies are a non-minoxidil supplement for general hair and nail strength. If you’re not experiencing significant thinning or shedding and just want to give your hair an extra boost of shine and strength, these might be a good option. Each cherry-flavored soft gummy contains 300 mcg of biotin as well as vitamin B12 and folic acid.

A bottle of Hers Biotin Gummies
Hers Biotin Gummies don’t contain any prescription-strength medication, and may be more effective when paired with other treatments.

Hers customer service is accessible via email at any time, but you need to fill out the website’s contact form to initiate communication with a customer service representative.

For appointment cancellations, Hers patients can call 800-368-0038. For customer service-related questions, though, you’ll probably be directed to the website.

Payment options

All Hers hair loss products are available as a one-time purchase or as a subscription. Hers accepts credit card payments from Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diner’s Club, and JCB. Hers does not accept insurance, health savings account (HSA), or flexible spending account (FSA) cards for hair loss products or services.

Understanding women’s hair loss and its common causes

Hair loss in women can be linked to a variety of factors, from stress to genetics. The most common causes of hair loss in women include:

  • Androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Also called female-pattern hair loss, AGA is considered genetic but can also be associated with hormonal factors.4 Women are typically affected by AGA around menopause. Early intervention with diet, FDA-approved medications such as minoxidil, and other treatments can help reduce hair loss over time.5
  • Chronic stress can contribute to hair loss by disrupting the hair growth cycle, leading to increased shedding, a pattern reflected in recent hair loss statistics
  • Hormone changes caused by pregnancy, menopause, or thyroid issues can also contribute to hair loss in women.

How much hair loss is normal?

Normal hair shedding is not the same as hair loss. Shedding is a natural part of the hair growth cycle, and it’s typical to shed between 50–100 hairs each day.6 Hair thinning or hair loss, on the other hand, involves a noticeable decrease in hair thickness or even the development of bald patches.

If you’re concerned about hair loss, consider seeing a doctor or dermatologist to determine whether your shedding is within a normal range. Signs it may be time to see a doctor about hair loss include:

  • Rapid or sudden hair loss
  • An irritated or itchy scalp
  • The appearance of bald spots
  • Hair loss-associated mental health concerns

Does Hers work for hair loss?

While Hers results will vary by user, many people have success with Hers hair growth products. Consistency is key with any hair regrowth effort, and it can take three to six months to start seeing results. Still, Hers claims that over 90% of customers saw their hair loss improve or stabilize as a result of treatment.

If you’re experiencing moderate to significant hair loss, you’re more likely to see results by using Hers products containing FDA-approved minoxidil. This active ingredient increases blood flow to the hair follicles, thus increasing follicle size and ultimately extending the hair’s active growth cycle. Due to its proven effectiveness and consistently strong results, minoxidil is regarded as the first-line treatment for AGA and other types of hair loss.7 The Hers platform makes it easy for women to access minoxidil treatments from the comfort of their own homes.

Who should and shouldn’t use Hers hair loss treatments

Minoxidil, the FDA-approved active ingredient in Hers hair products, is considered safe as long as it is used as recommended. Topical minoxidil may cause scalp irritation or redness, and both topical and oral minoxidil can lead to unwanted hair growth on the face or other areas of the body. It’s important to discuss other possible side effects with a doctor before you begin any hair regrowth regimen.

Who should use Hers

Hers hair products are ideal for:

  • Women experiencing early to moderate female pattern hair loss
  • Women experiencing hair thinning due to hormonal shifts from perimenopause or menopause
  • People who are able to commit to long-term, consistent, daily use of products

Who should not use Hers

Hers hair products may not be safe for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Anyone with preexisting cardiovascular issues
  • People with very sensitive skin or an already-irritated scalp

Anyone considering a hair regrowth product containing minoxidil should first consult with a health care provider to address preexisting conditions, potential medication interactions, or possible minoxidil side effects.

Tips for getting the best results with Hers

For women experiencing hair loss, the promise of thicker, fuller hair is enticing. While Hers products can help with hair regrowth, real results take time and patience. To get the most out of your hair loss treatment, here are our best Hers tips:

  • Be consistent. Commit to consistent daily use and the patience to keep going, even when you don’t see immediate results. It can take several months to notice hair regrowth, and those gains can be reversed if you discontinue treatment.
  • Layer treatments. Consider pairing products to maximize effects. For example, if you’re taking oral minoxidil, try pairing it with biotin-enriched Hers shampoo and conditioner.
  • Be proactive. Take a holistic approach by aiming to improve your overall health and well-being. Improved diet and nutrition may contribute to a healthier head of hair. Since chronic stress may contribute to hair loss, you may also want to work on ways to reduce stress.8

What you need to know about Hers

Hers provides a wide range of both over-the-counter and prescription options, from biotin-infused shampoos and gummies to FDA-approved minoxidil and finasteride formulas. Hers prescription-strength treatments are supported by virtual consultations with health care providers.

Hers hair review testers praised the platform’s ease of use, educational tools, and personalized care, noting noticeable improvements in hair fullness after regular use. While it takes patience to see results, Hers stands out for affordability, variety, and clinical credibility. That combination makes it one of the top choices for women seeking effective, at-home hair loss solutions.
