  • Our testers gave Mindbodygreen’s Creatine Tone+ high marks all around. They praised its natural ingredients, individual serving packets, and easy-to-mix powder.
  • At $2 per serving, Mindbodygreen creatine costs more than many other creatine powders. Subscription discounts and free shipping on qualifying orders may help lower the total cost.
  • Creatine supplements may help maintain muscle mass when combined with strength training and enough protein.
  • Creatine may also improve brain function, such as memory and processing speed.
  • Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+ comes only in one flavor, raspberry. But our testers gave its taste positive reviews.

As we age, we begin to naturally lose muscle mass. This process is called sarcopenia, and there are ways to prevent it. Taking a creatine supplement is one of them. Recent studies suggest that creatine supplementation may help rebuild and retain lost muscle.1 Creatine has also been shown to support key brain functions like memory recall. 2

Creatine supplements come in many forms, such as gummies, powders, and shakes. This Mindbodygreen creatine review focuses on the brand's Creatine Tone+ powder. In our survey of 250 older adults about supplements, 17% preferred powder form.3

To learn more about Mindbodygreen, we asked our testers to share their experiences taking the creatine powder. This review covers Mindbodygreen's mixability, taste, and added ingredients to help you decide if it's right for you.

Why choose Mindbodygreen creatine?

Mindbodygreen includes two plant-based ingredients: ginger root and veld grape. Researchers have studied these ingredients for potential digestive and anti-inflammatory benefits. Each serving provides 125 milligrams of ginger root extract to support digestion. The supplement also contains veld grape. Veld grape may help protect against bone loss and lower inflammation levels in the body.4

We appreciate the formula's short ingredient list and lack of added sugar. These are two reasons why it earned the title of best clean creatine in our Best Creatine for Women roundup. There are no animal byproducts, either. Mindbodygreen’s Creatine Tone+ recipe is vegan and lactose-free. All extra ingredients for color and digestive support are plant-based. These ingredients include beetroot, stevia, ginger root, and raspberry juice extract.

Supplements are meant to be used as a tool in our diet, rather than a replacement for quality nutrition.”

–Katie Whitson, MS, RD, LD, a registered dietitian

Mindbodygreen also made a strong first impression on our testers for how simple it is to add to your daily routine. You don't need to measure the powder or use a scoop. Each serving of creatine comes in its own clearly labeled "stick pack," making it easier to take on the go. Our testers found it mixed more easily with water than other creatines they tried. “It dissolves easily. We barely had to shake it,” one tester said.

How we tested Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+

Here's what our older adult testers looked at when evaluating creatines:

Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+: Pre-measured powder packs

Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+ packets deliver 5,000 mg (5 grams) of creatine monohydrate. Our testers liked the raspberry flavor and found it mixed well into water. Creatine Tone+ contains creatine monohydrate and plant-derived ingredients, including ginger root extract and raspberry juice extract.

Our experience with Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+

Mindbodygreen made a strong first impression on our testing team. “It’s like a party inside of the box,” one tester said of the blue-and-magenta packaging. This presentation earned the brand a 5/5 for first impressions.

Beyond the box, testers liked the individual packets and their directions, earning the instructions another 5/5. They found the pre-measured stick packs convenient. “You don’t have to fuss with measuring spoons or anything else,” one tester noted. “It’s very easy.”

Testers also found the mixing instructions on the stick pack helpful. They noted how much simpler this made it to take the product on the go. “These are easy to read, and I like that they're on both the individual pack and the box containing the individual packs,” one tester said. Mindbodygreen recommends mixing one stick pack with 8–10 fluid ounces of water or another beverage. One tester noted that adding more or less liquid can change the mixture's taste.

Mindbodygreen earned a 5/5 for mixing and a 4/5 for taste. “It’s sweet, thin, and watery,” one tester reported. That tester also said the powder dissolves so easily it could’ve been stirred rather than shaken. Mindbodygreen creatine comes in one flavor—raspberry. And there is no unflavored option. “The aftertaste has a little tang or pucker to it,” one tester noted.

Our testers said the tangy aftertaste remained noticeable even when they added more water than recommended. Our testers reported no physical side effects during their testing.

What are the benefits of Mindbodygreen creatine?

According to our experts, creatine alone isn't enough to prevent muscle loss. “These supplements are helpful for the retention of muscle mass when used alongside resistance training and adequate nutrition intake,” said Katie Whitson, MS, RD, LD, a registered dietitian based in Thornton, Colorado.

To gain or maintain muscle mass, take creatine as part of an exercise routine. “Evidence points to the practical benefit when creatine is paired with consistent resistance training, balance, walking, and adequate protein intake,” said Christiane Matey, MSHS, RDN, LDN, ABAAHP, a registered dietitian based in Mooresville, North Carolina. “An improvement of muscle mass and strength can make daily activities such as standing, walking, climbing stairs, carrying items, and getting out of bed easier.”

Creatine may also support some aspects of brain function. But that research is still developing. Early studies suggest creatine may improve memory recall and attention span.2

Mindbodygreen’s Creatine Tone+ was the only creatine supplement we tested that included veld grape. Veld grape may help reduce joint inflammation and further protect against bone loss.5

If you’re watching your sugar intake, Mindbodygreen may work well for your needs. There are no added sugars, and stevia is the only sweetener listed in the ingredients.

We start losing lean muscle mass so early, and it’s important for both function and longevity.”

—An older adult survey respondent on the importance of supplementing with creatine and protein.

What are the potential side effects of Mindbodygreen creatine?

Creatine is generally safe when taken as directed, but everyone is different.6 Talk to your doctor before starting creatine if you're taking any medications.

Some people experience water retention and bloat while taking creatine. Matey advised people on kidney medications to check with their healthcare provider before starting creatine. She also noted that you should tell your doctor and lab professionals about creatine intake whenever you’re having your blood drawn. “Taking daily creatine may affect blood marker serum creatinine,” she said. “Let the clinician know that, so they may properly interpret labs.” Serum creatinine is a blood measurement healthcare professionals use to evaluate kidney function.

How to take Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+

Mindbodygreen recommends mixing one stick pack into 8–10 fluid ounces of liquid. Our testers said it leaves a lingering tangy aftertaste. The company says you can mix the creatine powder with drinks other than water. You can also try mixing the powder with a flavored beverage to help mask the aftertaste.

Our testers didn’t report any difficulty opening the individual stick packs. But if you’re concerned about how well the packets tear open, have some scissors handy.

Creatine helps our muscles produce energy during short periods of intense activity. For daily supplementation, consistency may matter more than timing. We asked our survey respondents what advice they’d give a friend curious about protein or creatine. They often said, “Follow the instructions. Take it as scheduled.”3 Mindbodygreen also suggests you take creatine with a meal.

Who should consider Mindbodygreen Creatine Tone+?

Mindbodygreen suits those looking for a flavored creatine powder they can take on the go. Each stick pack contains an individual serving and includes the same instructions as on the box. Each serving contains 5 g (5,000 mg) of creatine monohydrate. The standard recommended daily dose is 3–5 g.

Our testers found that Mindbodygreen’s creatine powder mixed easily. They also liked the flavor, giving it a taste score of 4/5. Mindbodygreen makes many different supplements in different flavors. But Creatine Tone+ comes only in raspberry. The supplement has no added sugars and uses all-natural ingredients.

Mindbodygreen creatine is HSA/FSA-eligible. Eligibility and reimbursement depend on your plan and whether the purchase qualifies as a medical expense. Flexible spending account (FSA) funds generally cannot be used after retirement unless coverage remains available under an eligible arrangement. You cannot contribute to a health savings account (HSA) once enrolled in Medicare.

If you want more flavor choices or prefer a gummy supplement, you might want to try other options. Our testers also liked Create Creatine Monohydrate Gummies and Midi Creatine+ Gummies.

You should consider Mindbodygreen if you:

  • Want a vegan and dairy-free creatine supplement
  • Are hoping to use FSA/HSA funds to cover creatine
  • Prefer an on-the-go creatine powder
  • Want to avoid added sugars

You may consider other options if you:

  • Would prefer a gummy creatine supplement
  • Don’t like raspberry flavor
  • Want more transparent third-party testing
