About the Virtual Tour

The Marshfield Council on Aging wanted to reach out to the community to spread knowledge about what the Senior Center was really about and what it offered, as marketing is oftentimes a challenge, and the Council on Aging felt they were not reaching or serving as many older adults or caregivers as they could.

In an effort to come up with something unique, the Marshfield Council on Aging put together a virtual tour with the goal of familiarizing people with the Senior Center in a non-intrusive way. Volunteers starred in the video, and staff took pictures of each of the rooms, both empty and in-use. The video included a narrative describing what happened in each space. The video starts with people getting off the Council on Aging bus and then it takes the viewer on a walking tour of each space. The viewer is able to take a tour and understand the layout, spaces, and programs being offered. This was put on the town website and the local cable TV channel and is shown on monitors throughout the Senior Center to inform new participants about various programs.

Key takeaways from Virtual Tour:

  • This project involved many segments of the community, including staff, volunteers, and the local media, who all worked together to make the project a success.
  • The Virtual Tour is a work of art that makes those who may be hesitant to take part in the Senior Center's offerings feel more welcome. It also gives the community a chance to educate themselves about the programs and services offered.
  • The tour is a unique way to encourage people to come to the Senior Center, breaks down stereotypes about aging, and attracts new members to come to the Senior Center for assistance, information, recreation, and services they might not be able to get elsewhere.
