Evidence-Based Programs: Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes

Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes is a CDC-recognized, 12-month diabetes prevention program based on strategies proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes for those who are in the prediabetes range or are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Key concepts include planning, tracking, and living mindfully to prevent diabetes. The program is delivered in a real-time, online format by trained Lifestyle Coaches who are also Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). Participants track their progress and receive weekly one-on-one support through a secure, online portal.

Target Audience: The program targets adults with prediabetes or at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. BMI greater than or equal to 25 (23 if of Asian descent) required. No previous diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Delivered By: 1 Trained Lifestyle Coach

Training: The program is led by Lifestyle Coaches who are both hired and trained by NC State University. These trained coaches are also Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs).

Program Type: Group

Format: Remote (Virtual Programming/In-home)

Length: 26 lessons delivered over 12 months; each 1 hour long.
