If you’ve ever stacked pillows to ease reflux or propped up your legs after a long day, an adjustable bed may help. These beds let you raise your head, legs, or both. That makes it easier to customize your sleep position and get more support. For some, this may improve comfort, ease back pain, reduce pressure, support circulation, or make breathing easier.

“I’m much more comfortable in our adjustable bed because it mimics a recliner,” said Terry, a member of our mattress focus group who had sleep apnea in the past. Some research suggests that using an adjustable bed can also help reduce sleep apnea symptoms.

Saatva often ranks among our top mattresses for various causes of back pain. So we tested its adjustable bed base to see whether it could also support more comfortable sleep. In this review, we’ll explain the benefits of adjustable beds and discuss Saatva’s standout features. We'll also share what our testers found after assessing the base's technology, settings, and comfort

Find out what we thought in our full Saatva adjustable bed base review below.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus: Quiet Comfort

Saatva’s adjustable bed base was among the most customizable we tested, earning it a 4.5/5 from our testers. With a massage function, under-bed lighting, and minimal noise, it scored well in both tech and comfort. We tested the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus with a Saatva split queen mattress, but the base is compatible with any flex or split mattress.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

Saatva adjustable bed
  • Starts responding to remote button pushes quicker than any bed frame we tested
  • Ranked in top three for how convenient it is to use
  • Adjustment between positions is smooth and quiet
  • Remote design score: 4/5
  • Adjustments: 5/5
  • Ease of use rating: 4.5/5
  • Overall experience: 4.5/5

Pros

  • Built-in massager
  • Base contains a USB/USB-C charging port
  • Removable legs
  • Testers found it relieved pressure

Cons

  • No trial period
  • Remote may take time to learn
  • Adjusts a tad slower than other bases
  • No “TV” position

Our experience with the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus earned high scores across the board in our testing. It was quiet, comfortable, and moved smoothly. Unlike other adjustable bases we've tested, there’s no “TV” preset to put the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus in the upright TV-watching position. But you can create your own and save it on the remote’s “memory” feature—an experience our testers gave 4/5.

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus more than made up for that extra step with how the bed felt in the TV position. “I felt zero pressure in this position,” said one tester. “The positioning of my hips and lower back felt weightless. My upper back felt comfortable and in the perfect position to relieve any snoring but not be too upright, either.” The Base Plus also has presets for anti-snore elevation, zero-gravity, and massage. Saatva's Standard Adjustable Base lacks these features.

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus earned a convenience score of 3.4/5 from our testers. It lost points because the remote buttons could be more clearly marked. “The memory button was easy to use with the manual, but I’m deducting a point because I had to use the manual in the first place,” said one tester. The bells and whistles on this base include under-bed lighting, a flashlight on the remote, and massage functions. You can control all these features from the remote.

Our testers deducted a point for ease of use because operating the remote required the user manual.

Our testers felt the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus adjusted seamlessly and smoothly without being loud. Saatva advertises its adjustable base motors to be “whisper soft,” and this model lived up to that claim. This was the quietest base we tested, which contributed to its comfort score of 4.3/5. “The bed feels very smooth when moving,” said one tester.

But that quiet, smooth adjustment comes at the cost of speed. The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus took a little longer than other bases we tested to hit the zero-gravity position. Zero gravity lifts your head and legs, bends your knees slightly, and distributes your weight evenly. Most other adjustable bed bases reached this position in under 20 seconds. The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus took 35 seconds.

It took the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus 35 seconds to adjust to the zero-gravity position. But the base did so fairly smoothly and quietly.

Who is a Saatva adjustable bed base right for?

Those with certain chronic conditions

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus was incredibly smooth with its transitions. It may be a good fit for anyone who needs a bed that moves gently. In our March 2025 Pain and Position survey, several respondents mentioned purchasing an adjustable base for chronic pain. As one respondent said, “I have arthritis pain. I bought an adjustable bed that helps.”

Sleepers seeking pressure relief

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus may be right for you if you experience pressure on your joints or spine while you sleep. “This base felt the best for pressure relief,” said one tester. You may be able to increase the pressure relief by pairing your Saatva Adjustable Base Plus with one of the best mattresses for adjustable beds.

“Supportive pressure relief helps manage chronic pain, a condition that frequently emerges later in life and can actively interfere with sleep,” said Joseph Dzierzewski, PhD, senior vice president of research and scientific affairs at the National Sleep Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Light sleepers

Light sleepers may also enjoy the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus. The base’s “whisper-soft” motor lives up to the name, moving between positions nearly silently. You likely won’t wake in the night due to the motor. Another benefit for light sleepers? One of those positions is an “anti-snore setting” you can place your partner in with the touch of a button.

Who should keep looking for a different adjustable base?

  • People who want faster position changes. If you want your base to change positions quickly, this base may not be right for you. It’s the quietest adjustable base we tested, a feat it achieves by moving a little more slowly.
  • Sleepers on a budget. The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus is not the most affordable adjustable base on the market. Sleepers looking to adjust their bed but not their price range might be happier with the Nectar Premier adjustable bed frame.

Due to the POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), I need to get up slowly from a lying position, so that I don’t fall. By getting an adjustable bed, I’m able to rise slowly. In turn, my frequency of falls has decreased dramatically.”

Coming soon: The next Saatva adjustable beds in our testing queue

Here at NCOA, we’re continuously testing products to make sure you have the most up-to-date findings to guide your buying decisions. Saatva’s standard adjustable base is coming soon to our lineup.

Saatva Adjustable Base

Saatva’s standard adjustable base is missing some of the frills of the Adjustable Base Plus. It doesn’t include a massage setting, anti-snore preset, a zero-gravity preset, under-bed lights, or USB ports. But the Saatva Adjustable Base is compatible with all the same mattresses as the Adjustable Base Plus and starts at $200 less. Both Saatva bases have the “whisper-soft” motor and can still adjust the mattress if you opt to remove legs from the frame.

How to use a Saatva Adjustable Bed Base?

“The zoned support of adjustable beds can help decrease pain for many orthopedic and spine conditions,” said John Hinson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon based in Palm Beach, Florida. Some of these conditions include reduced snoring and improved breathing. Dr. Hinson said adjustable base beds can also “decrease insomnia, improve gastrointestinal issues, including decreased reflux symptoms, improve leg swelling, and improve independence for those with mobility issues and difficulty getting out of bed.”

To use an adjustable bed base like the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus, you need your remote. There are presets on the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus for anti-snore and zero-gravity positions. Unlike other adjustable bed bases on the market, the Saatva does not have a preset for upright TV watching. But you can add this to the remote via the memory function.

The zero-gravity setting aims to create “weightless” pressure relief, while the anti-snore setting elevates your head to help decrease snoring. Research finds that sleeping at a slight incline may help reduce snoring in people with sleep apnea and other breathing concerns.3

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus remote also lets you control under-bed lighting and the bed’s massage setting. The remote itself is backlit, so you can operate it in the dark. You can also operate your Saatva adjustable base via the iPhone or iPad app, but not Android.

Compatibility with Saatva adjustable bases

A mattress needs some flexibility to work with an adjustable base. If its structure is too rigid, it may resist bending rather than move with the base. Think of it like trying to fold a firm piece of cardboard rather than a soft blanket. Mattresses that work best with adjustable bases tend to be more flexible.

A split king mattress is two twin XL mattresses pushed together on a split king base. These beds are commonly used with adjustable bases because the bases can move independently. Saatva also offers an upper-flex adjustable base option, in which the head of the bed moves independently on both sides. The Saatva Solaire upper-flex mattress is the only one compatible with this base style.

You can explore other mattress options in our list of the best mattresses for adjustable beds.

Saatva states that its bases work with “mattresses designed to flex without shifting the inner materials.” Within Saatva’s own lineup, those options are:

  • Saatva Latex Hybrid
  • Zenhaven Latex
  • Contour5
  • Saatva Rx
  • Saatva Classic Luxury Hybrid Innerspring (11.5-inch height only)
  • Solaire Adjustable
  • Memory Foam Hybrid
  • Saatva HD

If you want to use the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus with a non-Saatva mattress, contact that mattress’s manufacturer about adjustable base compatibility.

Frequently asked questions

What is Saatva’s return policy?

You cannot return your Saatva adjustable bed base. Saatva states that each adjustable base is a “specifically assembled lifestyle product,” which means you cannot return or exchange it.

Do adjustable beds help with sleep apnea?

Adjustable beds may help with sleep apnea. Some early studies sugges elevating the head of the bed may help reduce obstructive sleep apnea symptoms.1

Should side sleepers use an adjustable bed?

Yes, side sleepers can use an adjustable bed. But side sleepers will need to be more cautious when finding the right angle for comfortable sleep. Slight elevation may help with comfort, reflux, or congestion. But steep positions are usually better suited to back sleeping. Side sleepers should look for a mattress that is flexible and pressure-relieving.

What are the disadvantages of an adjustable bed?

Compatibility is one possible disadvantage of an adjustable bed. Since some mattresses won’t work well with an adjustable base, you may also need to purchase a new mattress. Many brands of adjustable bed frames work only with their own mattresses. Bed height may be another disadvantage if the mattress itself is tall and the base doesn’t offer a zero-clearance setup, as the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus does.
