Beautyrest is well known as one of the best mattress brands, and for good reason. The company has been making mattresses for more than a century. In 1870, the brand launched under the Simmons Bedding Company. In 1925, it pioneered a design intended to minimize the motion of the bedsprings so couples might sleep without disturbing each other. The design, known as pocketed or individually wrapped coils, is still used today. While other brands use similar materials, Beautyrest beds stand out for their motion isolation.
The Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS is no exception. This hybrid mattress from Beautyrest’s premium Black Collection earned the highest possible score for motion isolation in our testing. It isn’t common for hybrid mattresses to score so highly in this area, especially when the mattress has a high bounce, as the XCS does.
In this Beautyrest Black Hybrid review, we take a detailed look at this mattress and explain how it performed in our testing. We cover its construction, firmness, comfort, support, cooling features, and overall performance and value. Read on to learn who this mattress may be best suited for.
Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS

- Excellent at limiting motion transfer between couples
- Strong, stable edges
- Uses CertiPUR-US certified foams
Why choose the Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS?
The BeautyRest Black Hybrid XCS has a pocketed coil design that wraps each spring in its own fabric pocket so it can move independently. Because of this, the BeautyRest Black Hybrid XCS has exceptional motion control. This helps make it a great mattress for couples who prefer a hybrid.
In our testing, edge support and bounce also stood out. That combination can make this a mattress to consider if you have pain or mobility concerns. The XCS has responsive support to assist movement when you change positions or get in and out of bed. But it still won’t disturb your partner. That combination is uncommon among hybrid mattresses.
Beautyrest mattresses are available in plush, medium, or firm. We tested the Series Three XCS in medium firmness. Overall, our testers noted it has a medium-firm feel, which may suit back and side sleepers. The mattresses in this series are taller than average at 14.5 inches, and may require deep-pocket sheets.
This is a premium mattress, and the price reflects that. But so does the quality. Beautyrest uses only CertiPUR-US certified foams in its mattresses and makes them in the United States. The brand also includes free delivery with in-room setup and old mattress removal (called white-glove delivery) for every purchase. Beautyrest mattresses offer a 100-night trial, so you can try them at home for several months before deciding. And the brand offers a 10-year warranty. If you’re looking to invest in a quality hybrid mattress with great support and motion isolation, the Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS offers a solid value.

Our experience with the Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS
Our testers could tell this was a luxury mattress at first sight. “The mattress has a beautiful cover. It’s black with a gold design on it. The pattern looks very luxurious,” said one tester. This quality carried through to the construction. Individually wrapped coils give the mattress decent bounce to help you change positions but still contain the motion so it doesn’t disturb a sleeping partner.
Motion isolation was the Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS’s standout feature. It earned a perfect 5/5 in our testing, a score usually only memory foam mattresses receive in this category. “Gold stars all around!” said a tester. “The bed has that classic dense, slow-moving foam that’s doughy and allows for a lot of deep sinkage. This made it great at absorbing motion on impact and preventing it from reaching my side of the bed.”
While the memory foam layers of this mattress take a few seconds to return to shape, there is still enough pushback from the coil system to make movement easier than on many all-foam beds. “I don’t sink much on this mattress,” said one tester. “I am definitely more on top of the mattress. There is some sinkage around the hips but that is about it.” The firmer feel can help support side and back sleepers.

The mattress also performed well for edge support, earning 4.67/5. “The edge is very supportive and firm,” said one tester. “I feel like I could lie fully on the edge and still feel safe. My body doesn’t feel like it is going to roll out of bed at all.” Strong edges can make a mattress feel larger. They can also help people who need extra support when getting in and out of bed.
Who is the Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS mattress right for?
The Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS may be a great fit for couples looking for a premium mattress with strong motion isolation. If you move around in bed, you're unlikely to disturb your partner. It also could be a good fit for back and side sleepers who want firm support. People with mobility concerns or aches and pains may appreciate the responsive support and stable edges of this hybrid mattress.

Who should keep looking for their perfect mattress?
The Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS does many things well, but it will not be the right fit for everyone. It may not work for:
- Hot sleepers who want more than just average cooling
- Stomach sleepers may find that this mattress doesn’t offer enough support to keep their hips from sinking in
- Shoppers on a budget who will likely want a less expensive mattress option
How much do Beautyrest mattresses cost?
The Beautyrest Black Hybrid XCS mattress we tested costs $3,999 for a queen before any discounts or promotions. It is one of the higher-priced mattresses in Beautyrest’s Black collection. All Beautyrest mattresses come with white-glove delivery and free mattress removal.
Many factors can affect the price of a mattress, including size, materials, construction, and special features like cooling technology. The BeautyRest Black line comes in a range of firmnesses and materials, which means the price will vary depending on whether you choose a more basic Series One or a more premium Series Three. Choosing a pillow-top model will also make the mattress cost more.
