I didn't know what OS and OD were off the top of my head, but GlassesUSA walked me through it, and I felt confident I'd entered my prescription properly.”

Warby Parker was by far the most popular online optical seller among our survey respondents.¹ The brand impressed our testers, too, earning an overall score of 9.7/10. We found the site straightforward, and the sunglasses relatively affordable. We also found that Warby Parker's glasses hold their shape well over time. One of our long-term testers reported that their frames are still in great shape after eight years of everyday use.

Our testers chose Warby Parker as the Best Prescription Sunglasses for Everyday Use because of style options and durability for the cost. Our testers gave the site a 5/5 for value. “For the selection and quality, you really can't beat the price,” said one tester. "The frames last for ages. I had one pair for eight years, and they still fit great.”

Warby Parker sunglasses frames start at $95 and include a scratch-resistant coating. Adding UV-blocking single-vision lenses to the brand's frames costs $100. Polarization for your lenses is an extra $50. Turning your prescription sunglasses into progressive lenses costs an extra $330. The brand clearly explains all of its pricing and options. And our testers gave Warby Parker a 5/5 for clarity of upgrade options. Like Zenni Optical, Warby Parker carries only its own brand. So our testing team was unable to do a side-by-side price comparison with other brands for prescription sunglasses frames.

Warby Parker also offers an option for “performance polarization.” This upgrade is designed to reduce glare, preserve depth perception, and sharpen contrast. Warby Parker includes performance polarization in its non-prescription sport frames. But you can add it to any other pair of sunglasses for $65. We did not test this feature.

Our testers had an overall positive experience with Warby's site and glasses. Its lack of bifocals and comparatively limited selection of sunglasses were the only factors that kept Warby from a perfect 10.

Eyebuydirect has 268 acetate frames alone. The site also partners with Oakley to offer frames made just for biking, fishing, and watersports.

Polarized Eyebuydirect sunglasses sit inside a cheerful yellow case — One tester ordered prescription sunglasses with polarized lenses and the advanced lens bundle with UV protective, anti-scratch, and anti-glare coatings.

But our testers said the availability of options can be overwhelming—and potentially costly. “The upgrades really add up!” said one tester. They noted that for sunglasses you’d want the baseline UV protection (+$6.95). Eyebuydirect upgrades quickly increased their costs from there. Polarization through Eyebuydirect added another $59. If you want to add the mirror finish to your polarization instead, it costs $80. Adding progressive lenses to Eyebuydirect sunglasses costs $49–$189 extra.

We asked respondents to our July 2026 Online Optical Survey about their biggest challenge when buying prescription glasses online. 71% reported no issues and said they had a great experience.¹

When we comparison-shopped two sites, the same pair of prescription Ray-Bans that were $339.25 on GlassesUSA cost $322.95 on Eyebuydirect. While the glasses cost less on Eyebuydirect, the process of building them was less transparent. Eyebuydirect doesn’t let you check out without selecting a lens package, ranging from $20–$83. The lack of clarity around upgrade options led our testers to rate Eyebuydirect 3/5 for upgrade clarity.

Eyebuydirect’s glasses were as light as advertised, though the fit was still a bit off. “They looked bigger in person than they did in the virtual try-on,” reported one tester. “But the lenses and frames seem fine. They are lightweight and otherwise look accurate to the photo.” Our testers gave Eyebuydirect a 4/5 for satisfaction with the final product.

It’s clear why Zenni earned our title of the Best Affordable Prescription Sunglasses. Zenni's sunglasses frames don’t cost more than $50. The site does include some sunglasses that can't be fitted with prescription lenses. But you still have lots of customization options. You can customize your Zenni prescription sunglasses search for a variety of choices. Some filter options include lightweight, anti-slip, adjustable nosepads, colors, and more.

There’s even an option to filter prescription sunglasses by sport. Zenni offers filters for cycling, running, court sports, and golf. “I was impressed that the site had so many options and filters to find exactly what you're looking for,” said one tester.

Wraparound Zenni Zunnies open to an upgrade screen — Zenni Optical allows you to upgrade your prescription sunglasses with polarization, mirroring, Transitions, or a Zenni UV filter called “Zunscreen.”

Zenni's glasses don't offer scratch protection as part of the standard warranty. But Zenni sunglasses come with an anti-scratch coating. There’s also an option to add “Zunscreen”—a $49 solar blue-light filter that blocks 100% of UV rays. You could also choose to pay $83 to have your prescription lenses polarized. A simple mirror finish on your prescription sunglasses costs $41. “Oh my goodness, there were so many add-on options,” one tester said. But our testers felt those options were explained well, and awarded Zenni a 4/5 for upgrade clarity.

Our testers were impressed by Frames Direct's website, especially its filtering options. The site allows users to narrow their search by sports-specific frames, such as wraparound or goggle options. Frames Direct also lets users choose lightweight materials such as plastic or acetate.

We did note that polarization options are not as easy to find on Frames Direct as on sites like Zenni. But you can add polarized lenses to your chosen glasses during checkout. “Everything was clearly explained. So I could assess whether or not I needed to add it to my glasses order,” one tester said. “I was also impressed with how easy it was to upload and add my insurance.” Frames Direct earned a perfect 5/5 for both upgrade clarity and prescription confidence.

One drawback of Frames Direct is that it's one of the more expensive online optical providers. When comparing the same pair of Ray-Ban prescription sunglasses across sites, Frames Direct was the priciest. The sunglasses that cost $339 and $323 at other retailers cost $436 on Frames Direct. So if you're shopping at Frames Direct, it's worth waiting for a sale.

Our tester found that the quality of the glasses they chose (on discount) helped justify the price. “My glasses were stylish, high-quality, and comfortable,” one tester said of the final product. “I wanted something lightweight and low-key. The glasses I got looked identical to the virtual try-on and fit perfectly.”

For this, our testers awarded Frames Direct a 5/5 for finished product, and a 4/5 for overall value. Still, our tester noted the higher price of the glasses before discounts. “If I had chosen some of the non-discounted glasses I tried on and liked, I would have found them of just average value,” she said.
