Articles ByJenee Alleman, MA, the Older Adult Specialist at the Helen Keller National Center, leads national efforts to support older adults with combined hearing and vision loss. Alleman coordinates the Confident Living Program (CLP), which provides training to older adults, outreach to professionals and families, and resources that promote independent living along with communication access. Alleman is also a member of the OIB-TAC Advisory Council and contributes to national discussions on policy and service delivery for older adults. She holds a master’s degree in school counseling and has over a decade of experience working in the fields of sensory loss, disability advocacy, and program coordination. Her work is also informed by personal experience, as she is DeafBlind and part of a multigenerational family with dual sensory loss. In her free time, she enjoys riding a tandem bike with her husband while towing their daughter behind them.
