Many older adults are eligible for programs that can help them afford daily costs like food and medicine. But knowing which programs to apply for—and how—can be intimidating. The process can be long, complicated, and confusing.
BenefitsCheckUp is NCOA’s way of making it easier. It was launched in 2001 to address the billions of dollars in benefits that are left on the table each year because older adults simply don’t know about them or how to apply.
BenefitsCheckUp is free and confidential. It matches older adults with programs based on their financial situation and location. Now the tool is even more accessible, thanks to some recent improvements.
Find what you’re looking for fast
If you already know you want information about a certain topic, you can now search for it along with your ZIP code and find details immediately. Looking for help paying for food? Simply click on the search bar at the top of the screen and enter the word “food” and your ZIP code.
Not sure what you might be eligible for? You also can browse different types of benefits. If you’re a Veteran, for example, just click “Benefits Programs,” then “Veterans Programs,” in the top menu.
Check your eligibility
You can quickly and anonymously check to see if you may be eligible for key programs. If you’re helping other people use BenefitsCheckUp, it’s also easier to change the ZIP code you’re searching and start over for each person.
Find in-person help near you
If you would rather talk to someone in person, you can search the new BenefitsCheckUp map. It features our partners who can help you find and enroll in benefits. Just navigate to “Get Help”, select “Local Help,” and enter your ZIP code. You’ll see options available near you and their contact information.
Get help in multiple languages
BenefitsCheckUp was already available in English and Spanish, and now it’s available in Vietnamese, too. To switch languages, simply navigate to “English” in the upper right corner, and choose the language you want.
