Evidence-Based Programs: On The Move

Walking difficulty is common in older adults and increases the risk of falls, loss of independence, and poor health outcomes. While many exercise programs exist, few target the timing and coordination needed for walking. On the Move (OTM) is a 12-week, group-based program designed to improve walking by focusing on biomechanics and motor control. Delivered twice weekly by trained leaders, OTM includes progressive stepping and walking exercises aligned with the gait cycle. A clinical trial showed OTM outperforms traditional seated exercise in improving mobility and reducing fall risk.
