June 2, 2025, Arlington, VA—The National Council on Aging (NCOA), the national voice for every person’s right to age well, has selected the winners of its fifth annual photo contest, which this year focused on what it looks like to be 75 in America, in celebration of its 75 years of service to older adults.
“This year’s photographs are a great illustration of the gift of longevity and what it means to age well,” said Ramsey Alwin, NCOA President and CEO.
NCOA has been working for 75 years to make this the norm—older adults enjoying vibrant lives with health and dignity.”
The contest seeks to redefine aging as a period of vitality, purpose, and connections. The photographs break down stereotypes of aging in America by showing older adults who are engaged in life—interacting with others across generations, volunteering and working in their communities, and being physically and mentally active.
The photo contest features distinguished photographers and artists from across the country who documented older Americans spending time with friends, honoring heroes, being active, and mentoring young people.
First Place went to “Ford 1933” by Salem Krieger. The photographer documented his mother’s relocation from living in New York City to a new life at the Veteran Center at Homelake Colorado. “The vintage car, an emblem of another era, becomes an extension of her journey—a bridge between history and the present,” said Krieger.

Second Place was awarded to “Walking Through Time” by May Zhou. The photograph shows a couple walking hand in hand beneath a canopy of blossoming trees—a symbol of their shared journey of patience, understanding, and enduring affection. “Their steady pace speaks to the wisdom of years spent together, navigating life's highs and lows with patience and grace,” said Zhou.

The 2025 People’s Choice Award went to "Peace of Music" by Kallie Cabanban.

The public is invited to view the complete NCOA Gallery of all selected photographs and artists. NCOA also will be releasing regular posts on social media, highlighting the winners and invited participants. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to learn more.
