Arlington, VA (November 4, 2022)—The National Council on Aging (NCOA), the national voice for every person’s right to age well, is distributing Lyft ride codes that offer older adults reliable, affordable transportation to and from the polls for the midterm election on Nov. 8.

“Older adults want to participate in our democracy, but many do not have transportation to get to polling stations,” said Ramsey Alwin, NCOA president and CEO.

Lyft's Voting Access Program will help ensure that older adults have access to transportation necessary to make their voices heard where it matters—at the voting booth.”

As part of the company's 2022 LyftUp Voting Access Program, Lyft has provided a ride code with a value of up to $50 to polling stations. The code can be used for discounted rideshare, as well as bike and scooter rides, making it as easy as possible for anyone and everyone to vote. NCOA will distribute the codes to the aging services network, where professionals can help their older clients use them.

“We believe that everyone’s voice—and vote—deserves to be heard, and transportation should never be a barrier,” said Lyft’s Director of Social Impact Lisa Boyd.

Lyft is proud to support NCOA's efforts to make getting to the polls as seamless as possible.”

During the pandemic, NCOA and Lyft partnered to provide access to reliable, affordable transportation for older adults to get their COVID vaccines and booster shots. Over 1,750 older adults and caregivers used the $50 codes to redeem more than 3,500 rides.
