Connect, Create, Contribute: How Benefits Empower Seniors to do All Three
Older Americans Month is finally here! This is a wonderful opportunity to remind each other of the many roles older adults play in their communities, and how we can support them. Having worked with and on behalf of older adults for nearly 70 years, we know benefits support each part of this year’s Older Americans Month theme: Connect, Create, Contribute.
Seniors, people with disabilities, and their loved ones rarely know the full extent of benefits programs available to support aging well. They rarely know where to even look for this information, so connecting them with it is a powerful opportunity to make a difference. BenefitsCheckUp® is NCOA’s comprehensive solution to this information gap.
BenefitsCheckUp® can be accessed from anywhere an Internet connection is available. It takes a small amount of user-provided information and creates a printable list of results specific to each user. From housing and utilities to tax relief and transportation, BenefitsCheckUp® examines hundreds of programs from twelve categories before suggesting what is worth pursuing. Trusted friends and relatives can even fill out the short questionnaire on behalf of an older adult who may not feel comfortable using a computer. Best of all, the information provided by every user is kept strictly confidential.
You don’t have to be a professional to empower older adults! You can contribute by encouraging others, even people who don’t think they’ll qualify for anything, to use BenefitsCheckUp®. We never know when a change—big or small—can affect your plans for life after age 60. Support Older Americans Month with BenefitsCheckUp® and the other resources available through our website and the Administration on Aging.
