If you're a professional working with people who have Original Medicare, you will want to know how to help them read and understand their Medicare Summary Notice (MSN). The MSN provides a snapshot of the services provided under Medicare, what Medicare paid for those services, and what the beneficiary might owe their provider.
This case study uses a sample client, Eleanor, who comes to you with questions about how much she might have to pay her provider for health care.
The MSN case study, developed for us by the Medicare Rights Centers, walks through how you as a Medicare professional can:
- Help Eleanor to understand the purpose of the MSN
- Explain the difference between the amount charged by the provider and the amount Medicare paid for services
- Help Eleanor learn what she might still owe in payment, and
- How she can protect herself from Medicare fraud.
