Saatva Adjustable Bed: Key Takeaways

  • Saatva has two adjustable base models, a standard model and a “plus” model with advanced features.
  • Discounts are available for customers ages 65 and older.
  • All adjustable bases come with free white-glove delivery and setup.

Saatva is one of many adjustable bed manufacturers on the market. Although known for made-to-order eco-friendly mattresses, Saatva also sells two types of adjustable bases. Our Reviews Team chose the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus as “Best Overall” in our review of the best adjustable bed frames. This review goes into more detail about the prices and features of both its models to help you decide whether a Saatva adjustable base is the right choice for your budget and sleep preferences.

According to our Reviews Team’s survey of 1,000 adjustable bed users, 62% of respondents purchased an adjustable bed to help ease joint and back pain while sleeping.1

Using an adjustable bed can benefit people who have arthritis, sleep apnea, heartburn, and/or back pain, according to Christine Kingsley, an advanced-practice registered nurse and health and wellness director of the Lung Institute.

Saatva Adjustable Base features

The Saatva Adjustable Base comes with:

  • A wireless remote with a built-in flashlight
  • A “zero-clearance” design, so you can use the base without its legs
  • Adjustable legs that can change the Saatva bed height from 13–18 inches

The Saatva Adjustable Base is a good choice for those looking for a simple adjustable bed with head and foot elevation. It has a “whisper quiet” motor that repositions the bed when controlled by the wireless remote. When a member of our Reviews Team tested the base, they found its motor to have a low hum when adjusting from one position to another.

The base comes in five size options ranging from twin XL to California king. Couples who prefer separate settings can choose a split king-size bed, which is split into two twin XL sized sections that can be fully customized to each sleeper’s preferences. We compared Saatva’s twin adjustable bed to others on the market; read our best twin adjustable beds review to see how it performed against other adjustable bed brands.

The Saatva Adjustable Base has removable legs that allow you to rest it on a platform bed frame or on the floor. The base is compatible with all Saatva bed frames except for the Sydney solid platform bed frame. If you want to use the Saatva Adjustable Base with a non-Saatva bed frame, contact the manufacturer to see if it is adjustable-base compatible. If you choose to keep the legs on the bed, you can adjust them in half-inch increments for bed height options of 13–18 inches to help you get in and out of bed safely and comfortably.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus (formerly Lineal Adjustable Base)

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

Price: Starts at $1,249 (Does not include mattress)

Warranty: 25 years

Free shipping: Yes

Trial period: No

Returns: No

Pros Full-body massaging feature Anti-snore, zero-gravity, and custom presets Under-bed lighting Removable legs and zero-clearance design Comes with a wireless remote control 25-year warranty
Cons Upper-Flex option is the same price as a split king but has fewer features No trial period

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus features

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus base includes the following:

  • A wireless remote with a built-in flashlight
  • A zero-clearance design, so you can use the base without its legs
  • Adjustable legs that can change bed height from 13–18 inches
  • A quiet motor that elevates the head and foot of the bed
  • A full-body massage feature
  • An Upper-Flex model option that elevates the head independently on both sides
  • Anti-snore, zero-gravity, and memory presets
  • Under-bed lighting
  • Wall-hugging design that keeps the head closer to the headboard and makes nightstands easier to reach

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus offers more features than the basic Saatva Adjustable Base. It comes with a full-body massage feature, under-bed lighting, and a wireless remote with customizable presets.

The presets that come with the Adjustable Base Plus model may be helpful for those who snore or experience back pain while sleeping. The anti-snore preset elevates the head, which can relax the throat muscles to make breathing through the nose easier and prevent snoring, according to Kingsley. The zero-gravity preset elevates the head and knees slightly as it raises the feet to the same level as the heart and distributes body weight more evenly. According to Saatva, this setting may benefit those with back pain or circulation issues.

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus comes in eight size options ranging from twin to California king. Like the Adjustable Base model, it has a split version for its king and California king-size bases. Our Reviews Team named the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus “Best Overall” in our review of the best split king adjustable beds

Figure 1 Saatva Adjustable Base Plus wall-hugging design

A Saatva Adjustable Base Plus with the head and foot of the bed elevated in a way that keeps the head close to the headboard.

The Adjustable Base Plus has a wall-hugging design that moves the mattress back when elevating the head. This keeps the position of your head relative to the wall the same as if you were lying down. Adjustable beds that lack this feature move your head forward and away from the wall when elevating the head of the bed, meaning you have to reach slightly behind you to access your nightstand or bedside table.

Optional Upper-Flex models

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus has an additional Upper-Flex option for its queen-size and king-size bases. Upper-Flex models give sleepers on each side of the bed the freedom to raise the head of their side of the bed independently, similar to how you can elevate the head of each side of a split king bed. Unlike a split king base, which is two twin XL bases side by side, the Upper-Flex bed is one base divided only at the head of the bed.

The cost of the king-size Upper-Flex base is the same as the cost of a split-king plus, yet it doesn’t offer as many benefits. For example, the Upper-Flex lacks the wall-hugging design of the plus models. And since the bottom half of the bed is completely intact, you can’t raise or lower the foot of one side of the bed without also raising or lowering the other. The Upper-Flex base models are only compatible with the Saatva Solaire Upper-Flex mattress.

How much do Saatva adjustable bases cost?

Adjustable bases from Saatva start at $1,045 for a twin XL and go up to $2,598 for a split California king. The Saatva Adjustable Base is not available in twin and full sizes. Saatva accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, Google Pay, PayPal, and Affirm.

Saatva offers a discount of $225 off orders of $1,000 or more to active-duty military members, veterans, first responders, government employees, health care professionals, teachers, students, and older adults ages 65 and over. You can select the discount on the checkout page, and Saatva will verify your eligibility by using ID.me, a website that verifies people’s legal identities. If a promotional sale gives a larger discount than the $225 discount, Saatva will apply the larger discount instead of combining the two discounts.

Saatva warranty, delivery, and returns

Each of the two Saatva adjustable base models has its own warranty. The Saatva Adjustable Base comes with a 10-year warranty, with full coverage during the first year of ownership. For the remaining nine years, the warranty becomes more limited over time in terms of what parts it covers and how much of the cost of any replacement parts it covers. See the Saatva adjustable base warranty page or use the links in Table 3 below for full details.

The Adjustable Base Plus warranty also offers less coverage over time, but it comes with a 25-year warranty with full coverage during the first five years of ownership. For the remaining 20 years, the warranty becomes more limited over time.

Saatva offers white-glove delivery for its adjustable bases, meaning that Saatva will deliver the base to your home and set it up in the room of your choice. They will also take away your old mattress and foundation (also called a box spring) for free. Just check the box next to “Free mattress & foundation removal” during checkout. The Saatva delivery team will not take away waterbed bases, bed frames of any kind, Sleep Number bases, and any stained or damaged mattresses and foundations.

Unlike Saatva mattresses, Saatva adjustable bases are considered “final sale,” meaning you cannot return or exchange them. Each adjustable base unit is made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged. Additionally, it can be difficult if you want to see the bed in person before purchasing but don’t live near one of the eight viewing rooms across the country.

Compatible mattresses

The adjustable bases from Saatva don’t come with a mattress, so you may have to add the cost of a new mattress to your budget. If you want to use your existing mattress or another brand’s mattress, Saatva recommends contacting the manufacturer and asking whether the mattress is compatible with adjustable bases. Saatva offers several mattresses that are compatible with the Adjustable Base and Adjustable Base Plus, starting at $1,795 for a queen-size mattress.

Bottom line

The Saatva Adjustable Base and Adjustable Base Plus let you decide between basic or premium features for your adjustable bed. While the basic Saatva Adjustable Base is more affordable, the Adjustable Base Plus model includes extra features, such as an anti-snore preset and a full-body massage preset.

Saatva offers free white-glove delivery, meaning you don’t have to carry the base inside your home and assemble it yourself. It also has an attentive customer service team available 24/7 to help you with your purchase.

Since the adjustable bases don’t come with a mattress, you’ll have to purchase a compatible mattress if you don’t have one already. It’s also important to know that Saatva adjustable bed bases are made to order and are not eligible for returns or exchanges. If a return period is important to you, read the Reviews Team’s Puffy Adjustable Base review and learn more about Puffy’s 101-night trial period.
