Center Partners with Students to Brighten Seniors' Lives

By Antonia Asher Kerney, Senior Program Director, Greater Maple Valley Community Center, Maple Valley, WA

The Greater Maple Valley Community Center in Maple Valley, WA, once again is partnering with the Tahoma School District Cedar River Middle School 6th grade classes to bring a little cheer to Meals on Wheels (MOW) recipients and senior program participants.

Organized by MOW volunteer coordinator Sherrie Davis, the classes will concentrate on monthly projects—from small baskets of goodies to winter necessities (warm socks, batteries, hot cocoa) to decorations for the senior program at the center. This is the second year for the program, and all eight 6th grade teachers have signed on, impressed with the impact the program had on last year's students.
