The vast majority of older adults and people with disabilities receive care and support from family members, and others from direct care workers. Both are critical components of the nation's long-term care system.

NCOA Position

NCOA is working with national partners to promote initiatives to assist family caregivers across the lifespan, including adequate appropriations for caregiver programs, development of caregiver assessments, and a refundable tax credit for caregivers.

We're also supporting efforts to ensure adequate supply and compensation of the direct support workforce, including improved access to health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
