New GreatNonprofits.org Award is Based on Positive Online Reviews

Washington, D.C. – The National Council on Aging (NCOA) has been named a 2012 Top-Rated Nonprofit by GreatNonprofits, a leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.

“We’re excited to be recognized for the important work we do for older adults, especially the vulnerable and disadvantaged,” says James Firman, NCOA president and CEO. “Last year, we helped struggling seniors apply for and receive over $810 million in benefits to keep them healthy, secure, and independent.”

The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the number of positive reviews NCOA received—written by experts in the field, volunteers, and clients.

One person wrote, “Struggling seniors are an all-too-often overlooked segment of American society. NCOA’s programs have a profound impact on this group by bringing jobs, benefits, food security, health self-management, and more directly to the people.”

Being on the Top-Rated list shows NCOA’s on-the-ground results. NCOA also has been rated as a four-star charity by Charity Navigator, is a Better Business Bureau accredited charity, and recently was recognized in MORE magazine as one of 11 nonprofits to consider for a year-end donation.
