Nationwide events planned to commemorate senior centers’ community ties to older Americans

Washington, DC – NCOA’s National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC), the only national organization solely focused on supporting our nation’s approximately 11,000 senior centers, commemorates National Senior Center Month as part of its 40th anniversary celebration this year.

For 40 years, NISC has been known as a dynamic network for senior center professionals from around the country who help to create opportunities for successful aging in our communities.

In honor of Senior Center Month this September, NISC is offering senior centers tips, ideas, and resources to help them showcase their programs and services in their communities. These materials can be found at www.ncoa.org/nisc.

NISC is joined in its celebration by CVS/pharmacy, NISC’s national sponsor and supporter of Senior Center Month. CVS/pharmacy is offering NISC members discounts on health care items at their stores around the country and opportunities for seniors to obtain much-needed flu shots in advance of the Fall flu season.

“For over 40 years, senior centers have offered older Americans opportunities to stay healthy, independent, and engaged in their communities,” said Jim Firman, President and CEO of NCOA. “We are thrilled to honor them as part of Senior Center Month and especially want to thank all senior center employees who work tirelessly in their community on behalf of their older citizens.”
