Important Notice for Those Losing LIS Deemed Status

Beginning Jan. 1, approx. 96,400 Medicare beneficiaries lost their deemed status for LIS/Extra Help. These people received a letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA) in September advising them that they would no longer be automatically eligible for the benefit in 2012, and a reminder phone call in November. New this year, beneficiaries who have not yet regained their deemed status will not receive a follow-up call, but rather another follow-up letter.
