Apply for a Grant to Promote Medicare's Diabetes Screening Benefit
July 24, 2010
The Medicare Diabetes Screening Project (MDSP) will award 20 grants of up to $2,500 to local organizations that can demonstrate how they can implement grassroots programs to promote Medicare's free diabetes screening benefit.
Initiatives may include material distribution, health fair participation, media campaigns, senior center briefings, or other unique ideas.
MDSP's mission is to improve the health and well-being of America's seniors by encouraging the use of Medicare's free preventative diabetes screening benefits.
This year, applications for the awards will be processed through the online Grant Management System of Novo Nordisk, which provides awards to the chosen applicants.
To apply, you must register as a requesting organization in the Novo Nordisk Grants Management System. Once you register, you can access a formal RFP and application guide.
The application deadline is Aug. 17, and decisions will be made on or about Aug. 31.

Community Education Program
For the past two years, MDSP also has partnered with NCOA to offer “Diabetes Screening: Medicare Benefits for Better Health.” The initiative consists of outreach to leaders of organizations, agencies, and companies that serve older adults, informing and educating them about Medicare’s benefits and encouraging them to make presentations and distribute information to older adults across the country.
The program includes a comprehensive toolkit of materials with information for the public and health care providers, as well as ready-to-go presentations with instructions and notes for speakers who can spread the word about diabetes screening.
For more information about this program, contact Christine Harding at christine.harding@ncoa.org.
