Health Reform: Still Within Reach
February 2, 2010
The next three weeks are critical in the movement to pass real health reform. This includes a week-long recess from Feb. 15-22 when members will be back home and could meet with constituents.
We are still very close to enacting this important legislation. Congressional leaders indicate they're working on comprehensive reforms that could pass this month.
There is broad consensus among advocates that, in order to hold onto important improvements for seniors on home and community-based long-term care, preventive and chronic care, prescription drug coverage, elder justice, and Medicare low-income assistance, the path requires passage of the Senate health reform bill, along with a reconciliation bill that reflects House-Senate compromises.
We must continue to urge Congress to pass comprehensive reform that includes these provisions, along with coverage for the uninsured and cost containment.
