Join a Work Group

Complete the NISC Interest and Expertise Inventory, and we'll be in touch with opportunities to get involved.

NISC’s new work groups are up and running!

You can network with senior center professionals from the comfort of your own office by joining one today.

Here's what the groups are working on now:

Improving Health

One of the goals of this work group is to get information regarding evidence-based wellness programs into the hands of senior center directors across the nation. We will explore ideas on collaboration and community partnerships to make successful programs in senior centers. We’ll also look at implementation and ways to gather and disseminate information. Work has just started, so it's a perfect time to join the group. Commitment of time includes monthly conference calls (approximately one hour) and possibly some research or work on your own.

Best Practices

This work group is looking for individuals to help evaluate entries for the NISC Research Award and the 2nd Annual Programs of Excellence Awards. It's easy and interesting work, done around your crazy schedule. It involves reading a group of applications and evaluating them according to standards set by the program. Maybe you have an idea for a webinar or seminar at a conference? Something you would like to share or something you would like to learn? We're also looking for people to bring these ideas to the attention of our work group. You get the reward of new ideas, great networking opportunities, and fun working with folks from around the country.

State Senior Center Associations

This work group believes your state association will be strengthened through cooperative and collaborative work with other state associations. We plan to encourage conversations among state associations regionally and nationally using a monthly news flash of information and best practice updates sent to a list serve of senior center association contacts. If you play a role in your state association, consider signing up for this work group.

Public Policy

This work group will prioritize senior center public policy issues. Senior center professionals can contribute unique expertise, help establish plans of action, and enlist strategic advocacy. If you join this group, you may work on advocating for senior center modernization funding or protecting senior nutrition programs in Older Americans Act reauthorization.

Economic Security

This work group is focused on helping senior center professionals gain access to economic security programs. Some of our activities this year may include increasing understanding of what economic security programs are available; identifying senior center professionals with expertise; developing a list of those willing to consult with other senior centers; and promoting economic security and benefits programs.

Diversity Liaison

We believe that NISC is enriched by the presence of individuals who differ from themselves in terms of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, social economic status, religious affiliation, gender, and ability. If you'd like to be part of a group that encourages diverse individuals to take positions within NISC work groups and leadership, or you’d like to help educate NISC membership on diversity issues, this group is for you.
