Aging Well At Home

Helping older adults stay safe and independent in their own homes

As we age, most of us need some kind of assistance to stay at home. The problem is, few of us have the insurance or resources to pay for it.

Millions of older adults have to impoverish themselves to get help with daily tasks like eating, dressing, or bathing. Or, they end up being forced out of their homes and into a nursing home too soon.

Others rely on family caregivers who sacrifice their mental, physical, and economic health to care for their loved ones.

We're working to help older adults stay safe and independent as long as possible.

  • We're calling on Congress to help seniors find and pay for long-term services and supports in their own communities.
  • We help older homeowners find ways to pay for the services they need to stay at home — such as tapping into their home equity.
  • As a member of the Elder Justice Now campaign, we're urging Congress to enact tougher laws to prevent and treat elder abuse.

The Real Face of Elder Abuse

It's a national disgrace. Every year, up to 5 million of our most vulnerable seniors are abused — physically, psychologically, and financially. As part of the Elder Justice Now campaign, we're bringing real video stories of elder abuse to Capitol Hill. Watch the videos and urge Congress to act.

What's New

  • A Helping Hand to Stay at Home
We're working to ensure that the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's CLASS Act stays in the final health reform bill. It will set up a new insurance program to help seniors and people with disabilities afford long-term care services right in their own homes and communities. See what we're asking for.

For some older homeowners, their house could be the answer to helping them stay independent longer. Find out how in our nationally acclaimed consumer guide on reverse mortgages. Download a free copy or order multiple copies online.
