Alcohol and prescription medication misuse and abuse are significant, growing and often under-recognized problems among older adults. This webinar discusses the prevalence of, risk factors for and impact of alcohol and psychoactive medication misuse/abuse on older adults as well as strategies for early intervention to prevent alcohol and medication misuse. Featured in this webinar is the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), which identifies older adults at risk for alcohol and medication misuse/abuse and intervenes as appropriate. Actions that state and local agencies can use to implement effective programs are highlighted, with a specific focus on strategies used in the FL BRITE project.

This webinar is part of a series developed by the Behavioral Health Older Americans Technical Assistance Center through funding from SAMHSA, in collaboration with AOA.
