Connect the Dots: Diabetes and Your Heart
In collaboration with Novartis, NCOA launched Connect the Dots, a social marketing campaign that educated older adults about the risks, diagnosis, screening, and treatment of diabetes and hypertension—and the Medicare Part B preventive benefits available to older adults. Through this initiative, NCOA went beyond awareness to change behavior among older adults.
In a survey of Connect the Dots participants, 63% said the program improved their level of exercise, 84% said it influenced their consideration of calories and fat, and 60% said they saw a doctor after the presentation.
The Connect the Dots "presentation in a box" was available at no cost to senior centers or community groups that wanted to hold an educational event. The kit included a CD of a PowerPoint presentation, a diabetes/hypertension checklist handout, a poster, and flyers needed to conduct a professional seminar.
