SEE for Older Adults

The SEE program provides older workers with employment opportunities supporting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

How do I know if I’m eligible for SEE?

To be eligible for the SEE program, you must:

  • Be age 55 or older
  • Have the needed skills and/or educational background to perform the required job duties

For certain positions, you may also be required to participate in an occupational medical monitoring examination which indicates that you’re medically qualified to perform the duties of the SEE assignment.

What kind of work will I perform?

SEE program positions range form microbiologist, chemists, scientists, research assistants--to technical writers, clerical and secretarial support. Positions are both full and part-time with benefits.

Your starting rate will be based on the level of skills required and the responsibilities involved in your assignment.

There are four assignment categories in the SEE program, each with its own pay scale. Starting rates for the four levels are:

  • Level 1:  $7.27 per hour
  • Level 2:  $8.78 per hour
  • Level 3:  $10.30 per hour
  • Level 4:  $12.72 per hour

Periodic pay increases are provided annually up to the maximum allowable in each of the four levels.

The SEE program is designed to provide supplementary income for older adults who have other sources of income. Pay rates are not comparable to EPA federal employees or to the prevailing rate in the private sector. As a result, the SEE  program may not be the optimum employment option for everyone.

What are the benefits?

Enrollees in the NCOA SEE program are entitled to the following benefits:

  • Employer’s portion of FICA (Social Security)
  • Coverage under Worker’s Compensation
  • Unemployment insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vacation (3 weeks per year) and sick leave (2 weeks per year); pro-rated for part-time employees
  • 10 paid holidays per year
  • Comprehensive health insurance for all enrollees working at least 24 hours per week

Why should I consider enrolling in the SEE program?

The SEE program provides an opportunity to supplement your income while performing meaningful work. The program also will allow you to:

  • Re-enter the workforce and gain new experiences to move into a better-paying, more permanent position.
  • Remain active.
  • Gain satisfaction from helping an agency that is contributing to a better environment.
  • Participate in additional training opportunities to upgrade your skills.
