December 8, 2012

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) determines when and how much of any late-enrollment penalty will be imposed on Part D plan members. CMS requires Part D plans to obtain information about any lapses of credible drug coverage that lasted more than 63 days after the end of the member's Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). The late-enrollment penalty is then calculated from here.
