NCOA has sponsored the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) since the late 1960s.
It is the nation's oldest program to provide training and employment opportunities to low-income Americans over age 55.
An innovative and cost-effective federal program, SCSEP allows individuals to develop the skills and self-confidence needed to find private employment while earning a modest income. Participants remain productive and independent by contributing their talent and services to their communities in a variety of ways--as child care providers, customer service representatives, teachers' aids, and job developers, among others.
Many NCOA SCSEP participants are enrolled in special NCOA training, where they learn computer technology, light home-builder trades, and health care. Many SCSEP participants also pursue a high school degree, college education, or specific vocational certificate.
NCOA maintains SCSEP offices nationwide; see the list below. For help administering a workforce development program, see NCOA's training materials and links.
