NCOA's Wisdom Works: Building Better Communities initiative creates new models for civic engagement among older adults, sponsored by MetLife Foundation.

Metlife Foundation

In Wisdom Works Phase II, NCOA chose six senior centers to receive grants of $25,000 each over a 20-month period to conduct civic engagement projects using self-directed teams of older adults.

The program's first phase launched in 2004, and NCOA awarded grants of $12,500 each to eight community organizations from across the country.

MetLife Foundation
partnered with NCOA to develop new opportunities for older adults through self-directed teams.  These teams build the capacity of organizations and provide meaningful leadership opportunities
