NISC Asks State Associations For Delegate Recommendations
September 16, 2008
The National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) is seeking nominations for its Delegate Council, a dynamic group of senior center professionals who work together to conduct the ongoing business of the constituent group. NISC is asking each state association to recommend a delegate to serve on the council during their state election year. Delegate Council nominations and self nominations are also encouraged. Elections for states are on a three-year cycle, meaning 17 states are due for elections each year. This year, elections are being held for: AK, AR, DC, GA, HI, IL, ME, MA, MO, MT, NV, NC, PA, TN, TX, UT, and WI. Engaging the state association in the election process has several benefits. It allows states to choose qualified individuals to represent their state on the delegate council, which in turn will likely ensure the information and good work being done by NCOA and NISC are passed along to all of your state association members, creating a stronger link across the United States in our common effort of providing innovative and quality services to meet the ever changing needs of the older persons that we serve. The criteria for serving on the delegate council are as follows: - Currently working for or connected to a senior center at the local level
- Agree to attend two board meetings a year (one meeting in conjunction with the NCOA/ASA national conference, the other held in the fall rotating between DC and a site chosen by the delegate council).
- Membership in NCOA and NISC
- A genuine interest in serving on the council to promote senior centers
