CVS and NCOA Announce 2009 Prescription for Better Health and Wellness Award Competition

In 2008, CVS and NCOA initiated a new award; its purpose was to highlight best practices in programming that provides seniors in their communities with access to activities, education or resources and promotes a healthy lifestyle. One award winner and five honorable mentions were chosen for the 2008 CVS/NCOA Prescription for Better Health and Wellness Award. They shared their senior center healthy aging best practices during webinars in May of 2008. We are pleased to announce our 2009 CVS/NCOA Prescription for Better Health and Wellness Competition. The competition will begin on November 1st and end on November 30th, 2008. Applications will only be accepted in that timeframe. We will share these best practices in senior center health programming in webinars held in the Spring. In 2009, we are conducting seven state-wide CVS/NCOA Prescription for Better Health and Wellness competitions. These pilot programs will be administered by the senior center state associations in Rhode Island, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Applications will be due in September or October of 2008. The winners from the statewide competition will automatically be entered into the national competition. Through the 2008 Prescription for Better Health Program, CVS and NCOA are partnering with senior centers throughout the country to help seniors take better care of their health. The Prescription for Better Health Program is being introduced in 2008 to senior centers across the country. The program's reach will span more than 25 states and Washington, D.C.
