6 Senior Centers Win Health and Wellness Awards

To recognize programs that provide seniors with exceptional access to activities and education that promote healthy lifestyles, CVS/pharmacy and NCOA held a nationwide competition.

The Prescription for Better Health and Wellness Award was presented on March 28, 2008, in Washington, D.C., as part of the NCOA-ASA Aging in America conference.

The winner was Madison Senior Center of Madison, N.J., recognized for its dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle for seniors in its community.

Five other centers were named as Honorable Mentions:

  • Mecosta County Senior Center of Mecosta, Michigan
  • Cabarrus County Senior Center of Concord, North Carolina
  • Two Rivers Senior Center of Two Rivers, Wisconsin
  • TMC Senior Resource Center of Tucson, Arizona
  • Grantsville Senior Center of Grantsville, Maryland

These award winners conducted two webinars on April 24, 2008 and May 28, 2008, sharing their promising practices with NISC members.

Information on the 2009 competition will be announced in NCOA Week in the Fall of 2008.
