Show Seniors How to Transition to Digital TV
March 10, 2008
On Feb. 17, 2009, all televisions in the United States will begin broadcasting with a 100% digital signal. This means that analog-only TVs will no longer work, unless they have a special converter box. The TV Converter Box Coupon Program will give each household two $40 coupons with which to buy a converter box. This program is especially important for seniors, who may have older TVs and limited resources with which to buy a converter box. How do you spread the word to the seniors you serve? You can watch a train-the-trainer presentation created for a joint project called Keeping Seniors Connected. Eleven aging services network organizations are part of this project, and NCOA/NISC is a partner. Download this PowerPoint presentation to see detailed information about the TV Converter Box Coupon Program from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), including the following: - Overview of the digital transition and TV Converter Box Coupon Program.
- Who needs a converter box.
- How to obtain and redeem coupons.
- NTIA resources to help you educate seniors you interact with regularly.
NTIA is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce and is the administering agency for the TV Converter Box Coupon Program.
