Senior Centers and the Senior Companion Program: A Natural Fit
September 10, 2007

By Kathy Sporre, Program Supervisor, Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Program, Inc., Fergus Falls, MN

The Fergus Falls Senior Center, in Fergus Falls, MN, has been the volunteer station for the Senior Companion Program for the last three years, and we have found it to be a natural fit. The Senior Companion Program is one of three programs comprising the Senior Corps, along with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Foster Grandparent Program.

A portion of the funding comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service, which also funds programs like AmeriCorps and VISTA. If your senior center is looking for creative ways to expand collaborative efforts, contact the agency in your state that administers the Senior Companion Program.

For more information, e-mail Kathy Sporre or call 218-736-6842.
