Reverse Mortgage Counseling

Use Your Home to Stay at Home™ Reverse Mortgage Consumer Booklet

Welcome! The U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development requires that all reverse mortgage counselors provide their clients with a copy of Use Your Home to Stay at Home™, a 28-page consumer booklet developed by the National Council on Aging (NCOA).

NCOA is a nonprofit service and advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, DC. It is a national voice for older Americans-especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged-and the community organizations that serve them. NCOA works with thousands of organizations across the country to help seniors find jobs and benefits, improve their health, live independently, and remain active in their communities.

More Resources for Reverse Mortgage Counselors

Older adults considering a reverse mortgage often need assistance to help them live independently. The following resources can help your clients get the support they need.

NCOA's BenefitsCheckUp© is the nation's most comprehensive Web-based service to screen for benefits programs for seniors with limited income and resources. This free service includes more than 1,700 public and private benefits programs, including help with prescription drugs, nutrition, energy assistance, health care, Social Security, tax relief, transportation, in-home services, and employment.

NCOA's My Medicare Matters is designed to help individuals make the most of their Medicare coverage. Visitors can learn how to choose or switch a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, discover what Medicare covers, and make sure they have the coverage they need.

This free service from the U.S. Administration on Aging helps individuals find local agencies providing home and community-based services like transportation, meals, home care, and caregiver support.

Sponsored by the nonprofit Fall Prevention Center of Excellence, this site offers tips on how to check if homes are safe for older adults and how to pay for home modifications.

The Family Caregiver Alliance offers this free, state-by-state resource to help individuals locate government, nonprofit, and private programs for older adults, including services for family caregivers.
