Senior Centers

These best practices have been proven effective in senior centers:

  • Caregiving Programs
Together We Care - Exemplary Caregiving Programs in Senior Centers

(The National Institute of Senior Centers in collaboration with NCOA's Research and Demonstrations division, funded by Pfizer Inc)

Drawing upon the rich database of innovative community-based programming developed in the Survey of Innovative Health and Supportive Services project, NCOA identified 10 outstanding caregiving programs with the help of an expert panel. Through in-depth telephone interviews, five exemplary programs were identified for inclusion in a best practices publication entitled "Together We Care."

  • Health Promotion, Wellness, and Fitness Programs
Healthy Aging: A Good Investment - Exemplary Programs for Senior Centers and other Facilities

(The National Institute of Senior Centers in collaboration with NCOA's Research and Demonstrations division, funded by MetLife Foundation)

Using a similar approach to the Caregiving project, NCOA and an expert panel identified promising health promotion, wellness, and fitness programs conducted within community-based organizations--including senior centers--that would lend themselves to replication or adaptation.
