Ms. Kilpatrick has been practicing in the field of speech and language pathology for more than three decades with a focus on improving communication and safety, as well as the memory and cognitive functioning of adults.  She is a national speaker on memory fitness and successful aging to a wide variety of audiences and provides information and resources through her website at www.memoryfitnessmatters.com.

Kathryn is a prolific author including the book, Walking to Memory Fitness One Week at a Time and its soon to be released companion Brain Teaser workbook.

During her presentation, Ms. Kilpatrick discussed:

  • Changes that occur in memory function as a normal part of aging — and the importance of distinguishing among normal aging, dementia, Alzheimer's, and other factors that may be present.
  • What experience has shown her about how to best meet the needs of seniors and the upcoming baby boomers with memory concerns.
  • What is the current best thinking on brain health – separating myth and hype from what has been proven helpful.
  • How community organizations, including senior centers, can support seniors as they seek to make the sometimes difficult lifestyle changes that tend to promote brain health.
