CAREGIVING: Men as Caregivers

Overview:

A majority of family caregivers are women, but men are also playing an important and growing role. Learn how to assess need and interest in planning a caregiver retreat especially for men.
Men often have their own perspective on the issues and challenges of being a caregiver. And they also respond somewhat differently to caregiver education and support opportunities. Learn some of the techniques for adapting caregiver education and support for a predominantly or exclusively male audience.
The Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center pilot program produced some amazing results. Learn about evaluating the bottom line when offering a caregiver retreat opportunity especially for men.

For several years, the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center has provided a wonderful retreat program for family caregivers. Recently, the program was expanded to include a retreat solely for men who are caregivers. Herz will discuss planning considerations, lessons learned, and outcome information from this unique program.
