Overview:

  • A majority of family caregivers are women, but men are also playing an important and growing role. Learn how to assess need and interest in planning a caregiver retreat especially for men.

  • Men often have their own perspective on the issues and challenges of being a caregiver. And they also respond somewhat differently to caregiver education and support opportunities. Learn some of the techniques for adapting caregiver education and support for a predominantly or exclusively male audience.

  • The Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center pilot program produced some amazing results. Learn about evaluating the bottom line when offering a caregiver retreat opportunity especially for men.

  • If your organization also offers caregiver education and support programs especially for men, or if you are considering adding programming for men, you can learn practical do's and don'ts from others.

Speaker:

Shawn Herz, MSG, LMFT, Director of Program Development for the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center, part of the Andrus Gerontology Center at USC.

For several years, the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center has provided a wonderful retreat program for family caregivers. Recently, the program was expanded to include a retreat solely for men who are caregivers. Herz will discuss planning considerations, lessons learned, and outcome information from this unique program.
